It's not just Cold War Paranoia, it's real.
The threat to Russia after the cold war ended, is greater now, since NATO which calls itself a "Defensive Alliance" and was started during the Cold War era, is actually an Offensive Alliance as can be judged by the wars NATO has been involved in after the breakup of the Soviet Union. Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan etc, just to name a few, and very far from Europe and the US.
When the Soviet Union disbanded, NATO had only 17 member countries.
Today they have around 32 countries in NATO, and NATO and the US at the helm, of course, has sureounded Russia since then.
So it is not "Cold War Paranoia" that Russia is experiencing, but facts on the ground.
