Why You Shouldn’t Marry a Japanese Man #Shorts

Japan is famous for its very low ranking in gender equality. In addition to that, ISSP has released data showing that "time spent by husbands doing housework" is the lowest in the world. While the global average is 30-40%, in Japan, men do only about 18.3% (one fifth) of the housework.

With even the second lowest country at 24.5%, why is it that only Japan has such low results? The main reasons are "long working hours" and "sense of division of roles.”

Japanese men work an average of 47.8 hours per week which is about 9.5 hours per weekday. Also, the idea that men should work outside and women should stay home to do housework and raise children is especially strong in Japan.

This is because during the Edo period (1603-1868 for 250 years), Japan was clearly divided into status and roles for efficient governance, and this was also true for relations between men and women.

In order to support women's participation in society, it is necessary to increase men's share of household chores. I hope that society will gradually change, recognizing that housework is also an important job.

Many Japanese friends (women) I know don’t want to get married ever. For this reason and needing to work along with a husband to get by and then have to do all the housework and child raising didn’t appeal. Doesn’t help the birth rate.

Aside from that even you let go of it all and become housewives, You slave away and waste a decade or 2 at home and the man cheats on you then you divorce... You go back to square one... All for a man who does not even help you do house cleaning...
