I've been traveling for business on and off for over 20 years. Taking the kids on business trips makes ZERO SENSE. Bad idea.

1. Don't take children on business trips.
2. Refer to number 1.

I can do anything for one year. Save, pay off your house, and return to do what you love.

At the end of the day, either extra pay is worth is worth the travel or it isn't. Dave isn't a replacement for every decision in life!

Your employer is going to expect $250k worth of commitment for that money. I would be prepared for work-life balance to suffer

Ken has a pretty good presence. He's not dwarfed by Dave to the extent that most other team members are.

Its just difficult when you have young family to move around. If he was single, he wont even be calling. He will pack his bag the next day.

Don't chase money. I did it for many years. Not worth the burnout. You cannot get work done and travel with your family.

My son once asked me if he should leave his company to take a better paying job. He felt loyalty to his old company, which I understood. My advice was this: A company will ALWAYS do what's in it's own best interest, even if it means letting you go. They will always look after their own interests first, so you MUST always consider what is in your own best interest. Your own best interest does not just mean more money, but you do have to look out for your own interests.

If the kids can travel then it can actually be a really cool opportunity. I remember so many things regarding vacations we took as a kid, some of which were with my dad for work trips.

It gives you unique experiences in life to Mark the time

Sir...$192, 000 increase in pay on top of a pension is quite significant. The question most important is how will it impact the relationship with your family. Will it bring you more happiness or misery, take into consideration when you were deployed? Thanks for sharing.

Great advice given. As a retired veteran, I can understand the urge to try and make up for lost time with the family, but four days a week away from the family is a lot better than a several month deployment.

If you take most of Dave's talking points and write them down on paper, they sound intuitive. If you were to write a book on his financial principles, you might think "Does this really need to be a book? Don't people understand this stuff?" Apparently, it isn't so easy. The caller in this video is obviously sharp, hard-working, and filled-to-the-brim with values. All Dave needed to do was allow the caller a moment of reflection and the solution materialized. That's what Dave and his partners do so well; they provide a sobering voice. They counter bombastic marketing and social media. They cut through the nonsense and "make it cool" to save money. In this case, Ken and Dave talked through forethought and "asking for what you want." Well done, Dave Ramsey team.

He never said what the new job is or if he would even really like it. A whole bunch of money is nice but if it is not something you're going to love or keeps you from your family it's not worth it. But it does sound like this should work out for him.

I don’t like that they didn’t even have the heart to ask did he NEED the money? If he’s making 120, 000 and they are debt free, happy and saving. Why would he need to sacrifice more of his time away from is children to attain more money that is not needed. They didn’t even asked if his wife worked and what was her income ...

I’m confused about why do they bring up the idea of bringing us kids on a work trip. He’s working, and it’s more than just 2 or 3 nights. I think they looking at the money and not what he actually saying
