I've learned over the years that staying behind 2 OS versions of every new release of macOS will make everybody happy 😁

Thanks for this one brotha. I’m sure this list will save a lot of people from the headaches updating can cause.
Good one indeed. 👍🏿👍🏿

And don't UPDATE while in middle of PROJECT

Very good advice! As you said, on a production machine you should not WANT to upgrade, you should NEED to upgrade. For me, I wait at least 6 months before doing a major version OS upgrade, to have most of the showstopping bugs and compatibility issues out of there. The Sweetwater list is nice, and should be used as well.

I used that list last year. A fantastic resource. I updated to Ventura about 3 months after release and everything was smooth.

Obviously no one should never update to new OS in a studio right away. Ventura is solid, but I only updated to Ventura after I got my new Interface. Sonoma is now qualified. Sweetwater is great help for us as well! We have test machines here also!

Updating in the first 6 months ALWAYS means bad business

Sweetwater is awesome - and their "software update compatibility" guide is always unbelievably helpful. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for posting - great advice. I have had a nightmare in the past after Mac OS updates where a whole bunch of plug-ins wouldn't then work 😐

I had to update to Sonoma for a project I got from my day job. So far all good for my MacBook Pro M1 Pro with Apollo X4 and over 500 plugins from all the top plugin makers including Fabfilter, UAD, Native Instruments, Izoptope, etc.

Interesting, I'm a new mac user so I'm still learning alot about these quirks of the OS. I haven't upgraded to the one before Sonoma, just incase of incompatibilities, but is it possible to still update to that os version even tho Sonoma is out?

As a long live ICT (computer) specialist, I fully agree. ONLY update if REALLY needed. Most of us can do the job without a new OS (Operating System) of our studio.

It's the functionality of the applications like Studio One, ProTools and the likes that should make us think, "Do I need that to do my work OR is it just another gimmick I will use just a couple of times. Computers and software on them is just a tool, I do 99% mixing, WHY would I need a new version of my software that brings me a new fancy synth to fiddle around with. I'm not a composer, artist of whatever. Studios have used mixing desks for decades and still sound perfect, computers will add a lot of "other" worries and at best at efficiency as long as bugs don't hit you.

SO: DO I REALLY REALLY need it, wait for at least 6 month and rethink it.

I see videos about and people having issues every day, which they would never have had if NOT updating to the next whatever. The music industry is becoming an ICT playing ground which has hardly any relationship which making music, except for the next "modern" way of doing. I have heard and seen guitar players with just their guitar and an old amp stealing the show, while a can see every day guitarists with 27 (or 28) peaces of gear falling apart during a show because their equipment is leading another day of misery again. At best they sound kind of the "simple" version of just instrument and amp. Makes me

I'm still on Monterey. Not changing it for a while until all my music programs are up to snuff.

I updated and it works just the same as Ventura

Hi Colt
I use shure sm7b into my Cranborn EC1 into my audient id4 1st gen

But I usually find my self mixing vocals for hours or day until I get what i am looking for

My room is barely treated, can it be the reason ?

The funny thing is that back 10 years ago everyone was saying Apple are more stable blahblahblah.

I guess now you take a PC (mine is like 10 years old), RME Interface, and Reaper (one of the lightest and most stable DAW ever) and that's it if you want things to be stable.

Thanks for the video anyways !
