I used to be an EVT (emergency vehicle technician) for the agency I work for. The t-taps were frowned upon, because they fail under high current loads. Same with scotch-locks and vampire clips. We used terminal blocks for everything. If we needed to tap power, we used fuse taps. Also, never use dikes to strip wire. An automatic stripper will pull away the insulation mid wire. Just clip it off with a blade or nippers. Just my .02. Dave

Good mechanics shun these sorts of things, for good reason. Any time you pierce the insulation on a wire (without properly sealing it) you are introducing a moisture intrusion point that *will* lead to an eventual corrosion failure. I would never use anything like this under the hood or under the vehicle, and only very reluctantly in the interior.

The telephone industry uses something very similar to what you just shown, but it is a one piece device instead of two pieces.

I like those, My next project could use 1 or2 of them... I think 3M made something similar.

People love to bash on T-taps. Sure, don't use these to splice into the ECM on your car. Don't use in damp environments.
But not every single project has to be bulletproof. Sometimes you just want a damn splice without spending all the extra time to "do it right." (Usually that entails just running all new wire.) That's why you keep different tools in your toolbox.
With that being said, these do degrade your wire slightly because they work by forcing a blade to cut through the insulation and make contact with(cut into) the conductor. Keep some of these around, but know when [not] to use them.

The best connectors are sold by posi-tap. I would put a link but that never works. But a search for posi-products should get you there. 😋
