Der Untergang (Downfall) Deleted Scene - Mohnke's Speech

This is a deleted scene from "Der Untergang" Extended Edition. In this scene, General Mohnke, commander for the defense of the center government district of Berlin, addresses soldiers before escaping the Reich Chancellery. Mohnke says that he has a mission to hand over the will of Hitler to the new president of the German government, Admiral Dönitz. He welcomes anyone who wishes to join him, and orders troops to be divided into several groups for the escape.

You can see Martin Bormann at 0:24, who is also trying to escape. Bormann escaped with a group including Ludwig Stumpfegger, a SS doctor who gave sleeping drink to Goebbels' children, and Artur Axmann, who was the leader of Hitler Jugend. They made their escape through the Berlin Underground, and they crossed the Weidendammer Bridge. When three of them were walking along the railway, Axmann decided to walk in the opposite direction. When Axmann witnessed Soviet Army patrols and turned back, he saw two bodies suspected as Bormann and Stumpfegger's. It was dark at night, so he couldn't identify the bodies. In 1972, construction workers uncovered human remains near Lehrter station, and those remains were identified as Bormann and Sturmpfegger's. They seem to have committed suicide to avoid being captured by biting cyanide capsule.

I got to speak to the grandson of Wilhelm Mohnke and he said this film’s depiction of his grandfather and the final days of the Third Reich were quite accurate. He stated that when Mohnke first entered the bunker at the start of the siege, he met with Hitler and he had expressed that Hitler was of the opinion that if he was going to go down, then the German people should be dragged down with him in flames. He was prepared to destroy all semblance of life for Germany beyond the Third Reich.

Their escapes towards the end of the Theratrical version would've made more sense (historically too) had this been kept, since it also shows Bormann amongst those attempting to do so.

Some of them looks pretty young but their rank seems high, which is unreasonable at some point
