People always get the parallel between Aang wanting his honor back, and then showing Zuko. But they miss the parallel between the two father-daughter and father-son conversations between Akota-Katara and Ozai-Zuko.

Carter defending my favorite show and trying to make sure everyone appreciates it is admirable

Everyone but Carter thinking they know how it is to be a child with the burden of the world on their shoulders lmao

It’s 100% understandable Aang would be upset that everyone thinks he’s dead. He feels he failed the world when we ran away 100 years ago and now he has a chance to right the balance and everyone thinks he’s dead. He doesn’t want people to believe he failed, he doesn’t want people to lose hope bc that’s what he represents

Its important to keep in mind Aang wasnt raised an avatar 100 years ago, hes been the avatar for only a few months. And in that time he's disappeared twice, with both of these resulting in the downfall of an entire nation and friends hurt/killed.

I agree with Carter on so many points. And also "it is irrational, dramatic and stupid". Yeah, they are human and children. All of us have acted stupid and irrational. And while the the decision itself might be stupid, it is still character driven and makes sense in the universe

not the whole group gaslighting carter at the end there lol

Regardless of the logistics, I'd have hated if Zuko's scar got healed. There's a point to it and nice symbolism surrounding it.

Carter is right, it’s not as simple as “aang is being stupid and selfish” and even if everyone else “understands where he’s coming from” they aren’t being empathetic at all (I know it’s a bit silly to criticize people for not being empathetic to a fictional character but the point still stands)

Carter is speaking so much facts. Then everyone else gets overly defensive and unwilling to admit that they though Aang was just being dumb with no reasoning behind it. Idk, just kinda frustrated me how everyone else reacted to Carter making really good points

Ngl the way that everyone was denying the fact that they WERE making those comments is crazy. Like it’s literally on video. And the people defending themselves and saying they weren’t making those comments were the ones saying that kinda stuff the most 😂

Appreciate the one guy reminding the rest to look past the surface of the character's actions. Love this show and characters and I love when people can connect to the characters by trying to see things from their view. ❤️ Hope everyone ends up loving this series 🎉

1. He's 12.
2. He failed the world BIG time by running away.
3. His absence contributed to the genocide of his people.
4. He came back SUUUUPER late to fix things resulting in even more lives lost.
5. He made another selfish choice (Katara) instead of facing his responsibilities (mastering the Avatar State), which resulted in Ba Sing Se being captured after holding out for 100 years.
6. The world is fully aware of his failure at Ba Sing Se.

Guys this is a lot for anyone to handle, let alone a child. His decisions were stupid but they made a lot of sense when you consider all of this. That's why I agree with Carter (Canon?) that you guys were too harsh on him.

It can be a dramatic call back and a stupid decision. Which is what makes the writing so good in Avatar. Characters have more depth than a single character trait and are allowed to experience and convey human emotions. I can understand why someone would find Aang's behavior frustrating but personally it's episodes like this that makes me appreciate the script writers. Aaron Ehasz definitely cooked.

Carter was so right and the fact that they all got so defensive and wouldnt even try to understand shows me exactly how much empathy there is in this group

The feeling of losing hope can turn huge tides in the war. Soldiers lose motivation, people lose their will. Aang being seen as dead is good for Team Avatar, but it undoubtedly has an effect on the whole world, which can be incredibly heartbreaking to someone who's duty is to the world.

Im glad Carter said something, they sometimes go a little too far with the negative comments on a characters actions. I wish they didnt gAang up on him either for making a mature comment to look past the surface either.
