I love that zero hesitation by duke to go save the crew. He’s not around long but you can see why Paul’s humanity is an important thing to have.

I love how the duke tells Paul that he always wanted to be a pilot and in this scene he fly's the aircraft himself.
What a great movie to include such minor details.

04:33 My god, that moment when they pull their wings out, the music kicks in together with the flawless sound design and visuals is so good. Especially at the cinema.

Leto putting the crew over the spice proves how much of a threat he was and why the emperor needed him gone, he was a man of the people who sought the well being of others

The “sand screen” (basically tan colored blue screens with texture) really helped make all of these scenes look far more realistic when you see the light on the actors.

I like how quickly they start panicking after being so calm

This was the scene that got me addicted to dune. So much emotion and lore in such a simple scene. Sooo much explained in seconds without many words of actual explanation. Master work

The use of scilence during the fall was just brilliant.

I hadn't read the book before watching the movie and at the theatre this was the scene that made me wanna read the book. And from this point on the story was so majestic😍

Notice the spotter aircraft at 1:40 are easter eggs: miniature Aries 1B moon shuttles from 2001 A Space Odyssey. Clever little insert to the movie!

A big difference between movie Leto and book Leto, is that movie Leto is legit heroic, while book Leto takes this action to make his men love him more. He is aware of his own propaganda, and he is aware that taking heroic risks for people, will make them more loyal to him.

The radio traffic in this scene is top-notch.
It first starts very routine--I imagine a Wormsign warning is nothing new for the crew, so other than their harvesting being interrupted they're not very worried.
At 3:20 though, one of the crewmembers asks about the Carryall -- he's still calm but you can feel the slight anxiety, since that Carryall is the lifeline for the entire crew.
And then at 3:40, the docking sequence starts. Everyone's calm but still serious--this is the most important moment, because failure to lift means there is no time for an alternative.
At 3:51 it all goes to hell--an anchor fails to deploy. The Harvester can't be airlifted without it, and you can *hear* the panick rising in the crew, and it serves to show us how grave things are.

All in all, the whole sequence could have been done without the chatter (or with just generic voice clips) without compromising the plot too much, but the acting and dialogue really helps give a sense of urgency and empathy with the Harvester crew. Very well done.

Seeing this movie in imax was incredible. Villanueve’s films are guaranteed to be beautiful and have amazing scores.

The reason I like the dragonfly 'thopter design so much is because the sheer mechanical stresses on those wings imply a level of mechanical and materials engineering knowledge inconceivably far beyond our own, which makes perfect sense — the taboo against "thinking machines" and computers in the Known Universe leaves much more of their civilization's technological focus on mechanical and other forms of engineering.

When I saw Dune part 1 in cinema I was utterly shocked by the details and music. It was shaking seats literally.

I really want an ornithopter dogfighting game now. That dive though...

Duke Leto should have stayed a pilot. That might have been his true calling. Family obligations waylaid that.

One of my favorite ships from the book was the ornithopter. I'm glad this movie finally got it right.
