The Voice really demonstrated what a good theater sound system could do.

Dune is one of those movies where you have to be in a theater to get the full experience. Whenever someone used the voice you felt the vibration go though your seat

"Mom I just woke up."
I feel ya, Paul

The voice when used properly taps into a person mind and finds the memory and voice of someone that individual felt had/has absolute authority over them. So its not Paul/Jessica the individual is obeying, its that person in their head that had authority and ruled over them so completely. Hence why Paul's voice sounds like the Reverend Mother to Jessica. She was the most domineering and commanding figurehead in Jessica's mind.

"Give me your water."
That foreshadowing tho.

Seeing this in theaters you were rattled to the core. You felt the voice.

Without any knowledge of the book or previous film, I was taken aback by what the voice actually was and even the delay on his speaking. Very well done!

Such a powerful scene. The voice takes the person being talked to inside, to their interior and the voice commands like you yourself would command yourself. The subject doesn’t experience the words as something external which one could reflect on but instead feels them as part of themselves, like a prompt which causes a certain reaction. The voice can only be used with deep penetration, gauging the others state of mind perfectly and intercepting it with a perfectly fitting chain of words in the perfect pitch.

This is actually great advice on how to properly talk to a dog to train them well. Find the right tone. Not too loud, not too soft. Be gentle yet firm. In my humble opinion

As far as the books imply the Voice is a conditioned response seeded through generations. It isn't magic, but more like the Manchurian Candidate on a population scale. More Pavlov than Gandalf. It seems to weigh into Herbert's vision of how genetic memory works. For generations people are conditioned to respond to the Voice, and that conditioning was passed down to the offspring. I'd wager the Voice would have no affect on someone who's lineage never were conditioned to the Voice. Much in the way the Missionara Protectiva was sent out, I wager conditioning for the Voice was part of that effort.

In the grimdarkness of the ... 24 millenium-ish people forgot to use the word "Please" so they started learning the voice.

I love that one of the voices within "the voice" sounds like Helem Mohaim, the reverend mother. Really feels like it pulls on some innate, vague sense of authority within Jessica's mind.

The delay between his mouth movement and the sound plus that subtle bass before it hits is so cool, I'm kinda dissappointed this was the only time it's portrayed that way. They really struck gold with that and should have at least used it again for the SILENCE! scene in part 2, it would have been a neat callback to this moment.

You can detect the various strands George Lucas pulled from Dune and made his own for the Star Wars lore. This Voice is definitely a precursor to the Jedi mind trick ("These aren't the droids you're looking for").

I love how these two talk and act like mother and son

Paul not wanting to do difficult tasks right after waking up
Jessica being supportive after Paul's good attempt by giving Paul the water
Jessica commenting that Paul looks tired

It's wonderful

I knew this was going to be one of the movies that had to be watched in a cinema hall. The first trailer back in 2020 told me all about it.

It released in December 2021 in Australia, and I waited more than 2 years to watch this movie. As soon as I heard the voice, I got goosebumps and felt shivers up my spine. I felt a vibration just move across the entire cinema hall. And this was a hall that could seat 600 people at max capacity.

From that moment on, I knew this was gonna be a great movie.

You know, she said "almost", but in the end she -did- in fact give it to him after he used the voice ;-)
