Shaddam Corrino IV was the eighty-first and final Padishah Emperor of the Corrino Empire, and thus the Known Universe. Utilizing his Sardaukar and the forces of House Harkonnen, he orchestrated the death of Duke Leto Atreides of House Atreides on Arrakis out of fear of his popularity. This led to Leto's son, Paul Atreides, beginning the Desert War with Arrakis' natives, the Fremen, and eventually overthrowing Shaddam and exiling him to Salusa Secundus.

My favorite detail is how this scene is a direct contrast against the scene that came immediately before it, not pictured here. After the Emperor receives Paul's challenge, he drops the letter and shuffles away, and for a moment the audience believes that he's feeling defeated. But then we remember that the whole theme of the book and movie is how the nature of power supersedes any one man, and is instantly followed by a giant city-sized shining orb hurtling toward the planet like a meteor carrying the most powerful army in the known universe. The emperor is absolutely enraged and is about to show this troublesome world what real power is...well only to be shown what real power is by Paul and the Fremen.

One very little thing with the emperor's ship that is very good with the amazing visual render is the double supersonic bang when it arrive in the sky after atmostpheric reentry, like the space shuttle did back in the day, it is nothing but i think it is a cool detail and a little realistic touch to that movie
