Kristen teaches how to cast on needles to knit. Learn how to knit in this Beginner's series. Learn how to knit in this beginners knitting series on basic needle knitting techniques and stitches. Needles and Yarn Used: The needles are Bamboo size 15 from Clover and the yarn is Lion Brand Yarns Hometown USA (it's a super bulky #6)

I'm using Number 15 bamboo needles from Clover. I also like to use shorter needle attached to cords (circular needles) for scarves/flat panels because it is easier to handle. I used to have carpel tunnel issues so I understand. I hope that helps!

I once met an older gentleman with physical and eyesight disabilities who knitted and crotcheted amazing works of art tea cozies and doylies and shawles and table covers etc. As a boy he said he was very sickly and spent months in hospital. He taught himself to knit with chicken feathers instead of needles. His work was astoundingly complicated and whimsical and also practical. He humbly sold on his unique and beautiful projects at a local country market at very reasonable prices. He was an amasing and gifted soul with a big smile for everyone. I wish now I had got to know him better and spent time learning from him. Whereever he is I hope he still has the ability to use his eyes and hands for his craft.

I have to say thank you again for these videos. I haven’t knitted in probably 10 years and I definitely needed a refresher. I used your videos previously when I did knit. I hope you never remove these beginner videos.

I came across your video about 4 weeks ago, decided one day I wanted to learn to knit. After scouring endless knitting tutorials, Yours by far where the best most easiest to follow, you didn't waste a bunch of time talking. You went straight to the point, talked through it slowly as you demonstrated, great camera angles. After 4 weeks of knitting following your tutorials, I have people thinking that I have been knitting for years and when I show them the work that I have done and tell them that I've only been doing this a short time they can't believe it. I even made my own knitting needles.

Thanks for this. Your channel is my "go-to" whenever I forget the simple things of knitting. Plus, your voice is really lovely. Cheers! :)

This is not the best video for beginners. This is the PERFECT video for beginners.
Up close, slow motion, crisp high quality video, clear voice instructions, captions where necessary, good background music too.
Thank you so much. Knitting is now my new hobby

I've been crocheting for 11 years and have wanted to learn to knit for almost as long. I've watched many other videos and have asked so many people to teach me how and none had any success before I watched your video. Thank you very much.

Thank you SO MUCH Kristen for showing us beginners how to cast, very slowly. I've been so hesitant to start a new winter blanket, until recently my Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer and he'll be going through radiation treatments over this coming winter. I had bookmarked your video for when I was ready, and today I'M READY. From all of us beginners, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your pace of showing us how to cast on and knit. <3 <3 <3

I've been knitting for years - sweaters, baby clothes, etc. But then, I hadn't knitted for a long time and, when I picked it up again just now, I'd realized that I couldn't even remember how to cast on! This was the perfect video to refresh my memory. Once I got it, I took off and didn't even need to see the rest of the video! I love how she goes really slowly and it's so close-up! Thanks! :)

Nice tutorial. I say everyone's tutorial video's should be slow and descriptive like this.
Thanks for making such a tutorial

I can't begin to tell you how many times I've had other knitters try to teach me, they have all failed--or, more correctly, I have failed! I still wanted to learn how, watched other videos. But yours? Perfect. Nice and slow and with Closed Captioning to boot? You are very sweet and kind to take the time to do this. I appreciate it!

Thanks for this video, Kristen!  I put knitting on hold for a couple of years, and was never truly taught the "proper" way to cast on.  This video explains it all, and it real time for me.  I'm a beginner, I move slowly.  Thanks again!

Thank you! for your patience and time with teaching this easy knitting technique for beginners like my self on youtube..My husband and I bought a house as is.. and there were many, many different valuables we kept before gutting and cleaning our new Homeand, amongst all the different stuff was bags of new yawn and different needless..I thought to sell it in a garage sell but seeing how the previous owner made beautiful blankets, booties and scarfs with it.. I figured I could learn this too.

The last time I tried knitting, my much adored, but not-very-patient Sicilian grandma was teaching me. I was 7-years-old. Now I'm 33 - my grandma has passed, but I'm sure she'd be grinning over her knitting needles from where ever she is now, saying "Bravo stellina!" Thank you :D

You are a born teacher with such patience in your voice. You have a comforting tone to your voice which makes people think, yes, I can do this. Such a wonderful video, I can now cast on!
