How to knit the turkish cast-on - perfect for toe-up socks

The Turkish cast-on is so simple it literally is nothing else but wrapping the yarn around two needles counter-clockwise and then knitting across. It works best with circular needles and the magic loop technique. The results will be the same compared to the Magic Cast-on once you've knitted across the first needle. So it boils down to preferences and your individual tension & style.

Not at all silly to record it. I appreciate it as I have never cast on like this and it helps me to understand how I need to do it. Thankyou.

Norman, I honestly feel you are one of the greatest knitting teachers on YouTube. Suzanne Bryan and Roxanne Richardson being the other two I heavily rely upon.

Thank you so much for your easy to follow lessons and words of encouragement.

I'm taking another's pludge into more complex techniques and really hope to improve.

Thank you!

There is a big difference to Judy's magic cast-on: I always get confused with her method, and yours is so simple! Thank you for the video.

omg! it's much simpler than judy's magic cast on! And I also don't have to care about the length of tail! Great tip! Thank you!

What I always love about your videos is how you explain the technique and compare it to other types of stitches, in this case to Judy’s magic cast on. You help us become better at “reading” our stitches. Thank you!

Like many others I am very greatful to you for recording this as I have struggled to remember Judys Magic Cast On. This creates the very same effect but oh so much easier. Thank you!❤

I like how you don’t need a long tail for this method. Handy when you need to cast on a lot of stitches.
Thanks Norman, you knitting God you, this was invaluable and well worth doing the demonstration. Thank you. Loads of love.

Haven't made toe up socks for a while so I queried Turkish cast on and Norman came up first! So happy. Your videos are always so clear and it felt like visiting a friend hearing your voice. Thank you😊

Hi, Norman. Thank you for making this "silly" tutorial. I was looking to make a rucksack for my gnomes, preferably from the bottom up, and with no seam/sewing required. This cast on is so easy (no worries about twisting) and the seam is just flawless and beautiful. As always, thank you for the great videos with close-ups, explanations, and your passion. Have a wonderful holiday.
