Dutch language challenge: we showed this tool to our foreign students of Dutch. It is related to one of the characteristics of Dutch people... that the Dutch don't like to waste money...

But that's not what they guessed immediately!
Something for the garden? To clean windows? Is it to split food? Going Dutch? Something for the kitchen maybe?

Tegenwoordig zijn er nog maar weinig flessen in de winkel. Deze flessenlikker gebruik je om bv de vla uit de fles te krijgen. Maar nu alle verpakkingen van karton zijn is het niet raar dat er menig jongere hier niet weet wat dit is..
( Ik heb het iig sinds eind jaren 90 niet meer gebruikt)

Whaaaat I'm so surprised people have never heard of the "likker", I use it for everything; pindakaas, pasta sauce, jam, anything that comes in a jar or bottle with a wide enough opening really, such a shame to let the leftovers go to waste

I have one of these to this day. Laugh about it all you want but you can get a full bowl out of an 'empty' carton with this! Very useful when you're a student. Most duchies today come from grandparents or even parents who grew up really poor, or even went through the 'hongerwinter', so we were taught to waste as little as possible.

They in fact are similar to silicone spatulas for baking but at an angle because they are meant for bottles, jars and cartons instead of bowls.

I am Dutch and I am amazed that so many Dutch people don't know a "flessenlikker". I thought it was in every Dutch house. When I bought one, my ex wife ridiculed me. haha. But, now I live alone, I use it certainly once or twice a week. Mostly for vla or youghurt (use the flat side), but also for Bolognese sauce bottles (use the round side).

It works really well for takin out thick smoothies out of de blender. There’s always staying a lot of smoothie underneath the blades, and because the flessenlikker is very long it works much easier then a spoon.

Ik gebruik hem bijna dagelijks, als hij al wat ouder is wil de schraper wel eens loslaten, gelukkig heb ik er altijd een paar in reserve.
