If you like Japanese sushi you can at least try Dutch herring without acting like you're about to throw up. Give it a fair chance

I was station in the Netherlands in the U S Army at a small NATO ( NAVO ) base in Brunssum in 1968-70. Had the most fun in my life. In Limburg provience the very southern part. I just love the stuff with onions. I got married to a dutch woman from Grevenbicht. o god every time we would visit couldn't wait to go to the frites stand. Another is the frikandel. Russia had herring too and Germany also. I want to jump on a plane and fly over there now. My taste buds is screaming for it now. The dutch people is the best.

It has been known in Poland for centuries, not only as the basis of diets during periods of fasting, but also a tasty and healthy snack. Even before 1939, restaurants served it as an appetiser before lunch, usually with a shot of cold vodka.

I'm pretty sure that in Belgium you can find "Hollandse maatjes" as well. According to Wikipedia however "Hollandse nieuwe" is a seasonal version of the "Holland maatje"? Don't think that disctinction is made here.

When I was young, my grandparents and I went to the market on every friday. And I always ate 2 herrings. I loved it then and I still love it now. I can eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner

I love herring! In the Netherlands it's good! Actually in Russia herring is very popular as well. I'm really surprised at the Russians' reaction in the video🤔

I ate this in the Netherlands and gobbled a few pieces before moving onto sushi. It was really good with a side of bitterballen

LMAO as a dutch being, I love herring. But I can imagine that I would be just as horrified with fried crickets and spiders or thick juicy worms that are very normal delicacies in other cultures.

Salted haring is very tasty, very tender, very nutricious and very healthy as well because of the omega 3 and 6 within its fat. I buy them regularly and have two of them for breakfast or lunch on a slice of bread. Yum!

It's very healthy, i used to hate this as a kid but now i eat it at least once a week. It's mouthwatering good.
Very fatty, moist, salty and tender. I prefer to eat it with onions though.

It's delicious and healthy too, because of the high amounts of fatty acids (omega 3, 6 and 9) that (raw) that the herrings contain. A good, juicy and tender herring is, like an oister and caviar a real treat, but less expensive.

I like it for breakfast, and then I'll have two of them. Yummie!
