Why Stupidity is Power | Priceless Benefits of Being Stupid

People generally fear being perceived as stupid. Often, stupid people are looked down upon and laughed at. Society perceives stupid people as useless, as a burden rather than an asset. Hence, most of us try to prevent ourselves from appearing stupid in front of co-workers, fellow students, family members, and friends. And sometimes, we try to appear much smarter than we are just so people hold us in high esteem – just so people won’t think of us as stupid.

My girlfriend's physics professor used to say
"People who say there is no stupid question are wrong. Of course there are stupid questions! But it's better to be stupid now than on the exam."

God rest his soul.

Growing up, you're taught that being liked by everyone is a plus. The older I get, the more I realize that as long as you hold yourself to high standards, it really doesn't matter what others think of you. I know a lot of people that fake it to be liked by everyone, instead of being honest and maybe losing a friend or two over their point of view. Id rather have people think im an idiot than people think Im smart and try to take a piece of me bc of that perception. All I want is to be left alone on my 30 acre property in the middle of nowhere, Colorado and write&record my music.

when people perceive you as stupid, they will reveal who they really are.

Sometimes the smartest thing to do is to mind your own business, keep a low profile and be quiet,
even if you have a lot to say.

I start to act stupid when people ask for too much from me. It's good way to enforce boundaries

Convincing ourselves to be smart is the ultimate way for us to stop learning and growing. If we all think of ourselves as stupid and use that as a base to advance, imagine how much happier and smarter (ironically) we all become

It's 100 times better to be perceived as Stupid by remaining silent instead of opening your mouth and removing all doubt!

As an engineering student, I became known in my university as that guy Said who asks the questions everyone has. This was a result of me asking questions about whatever I don't get on the SPOT (within reason, other people are also paying for the lecture, I don't want to cause complet chaos). Anyways later on I decide to go to a party, there a lot of people came up to me thanking me by name (me not evening meeting them before) for asking the questions that they also had. This made realize although I am clueless, many other people are also clueless but they care to much about the picture they put.

Never underestimate the apprentice’s ability to mess things up. Engineers with 15 years experience have stood scratching their heads asking themselves “ how the hell did he manage to do that?”😂

That's not stupidity. It's playing stupid when you're not. If anything, it's a form of wisdom, but it's not being stupid.^^

As a foreigner in Japan who speaks the language, I'm often expected to go above and beyond native Japanese.
Probably because they see it as an unconquerable task that I learned the language.
So let me amend your statement: you can only receive the benefits of being a foreigner in Japan if you don't speak Japanese.

As someone who's been called stupid for much of my life, thanks.

Why stupidity is power
1) people don't expect much of you
2) A different perspective
3) being considered useless
4) the foundation of civilization (greatest irony of life)

Thank you for another great piece!
As Forrest Gump said, “Stupid is as stupid does” I prefer to think that there’s no stupid person. People just do things/make decisions, which can be seen as stupid/smart at certain context depends on how you look at it.

Stupidity is my superpower! :) Makes it easier to learn, not be a threat to others, and not take too much heat when you mess up while working on the bleeding edge.

It takes great amount of intelligence to make a really stupid mistake.
Stupid is a tag that most use to describe something they don't like rather than how 'clever' it was.

I had a super smart friend in grade school who was a master at playing dumb.
20 years later it's not an act anymore.

Basically "never underestimate the stupid". I learned this lesson long ago. It's good to play stupid only when you know it gives you an advantage

“Play dumb, fool others”.

sometimes feigning stupidity can make it harder for people to work you out if you are cautious of your surroundings especially when you think haters are around you. People will slip up around you and reveal who they really are

I have Asperger's, so throughout my life I've definitely came into contact with people who don't understand it and think I'm stupid, overtime I've become way too sensitive and take everything too personal, I'm currently on a journey of self improvement which I'm documenting on my YouTube channel, but I want to completely change the way my mind works, I want to change my image of myself, my reaction to things, etc...
