My ex boyfriend's brother and his wife took in a stray cat several years ago after no one claimed her as theirs. She was a tiny and super sweet calico and pregnant at the time they found her so they assumed she was dumped by whoever she was with beforehand because she was pregnant.

Soon after she had her kittens they had laid their 1 year old son down for a nap in his room and about an hour or so after that they heard a lot of commotion and the baby started crying so they went to see what was going on...Miss Kitty came strutting out of his room with a copperhead in her mouth. Everyone was unharmed (except for the snake) and Miss Kitty had steak for dinner that night, lol.

That first cat adjusted his reaction during the strike. At first, he did a mild evasion, then as the snake kept coming he switched to a proper evasion jump. Then as he saw that his face was still in danger, he corrected his body posture to get his face further away from the snake. So the cat evaluated the situation and adjusted his response three times during that attack.
