On Thursday morning, the online clash between Nigerians and South Africans escalated as both sides engaged in a new battle of supremacy.

Citizens from both countries started ordering e-hailing drivers from each other's countries and canceling the rides when the drivers arrived. South Africans initially led by ordering Bolt and Uber drivers in Nigeria, only to cancel once the drivers reached their pick-up locations. In retaliation, Nigerians did the same to South African drivers.

PUNCH Online's social media check on Thursday revealed that ‘South African’ and ‘Bolt’ were trending on X.com in Nigeria. Nigerians were seen rallying on the platform, encouraging each other to book rides in South Africa to demonstrate their numbers.

Others mocked South Africans for starting a conflict they couldn’t win, given Nigeria’s large population of approximately 200 million people.

I'm a South African and this is slowly getting out of hand. The Nigerian Embassy and the South African Embassy need to do something about this. The Nigerian Government has not taken any accountability about the crimes committed by Chidimas Parents, Identity Fraud is a real problem in South Africa. Most Nigerians who come to South Africa do Drugs, Human Trafficking, Prostitution, Scamming, Demand Protection Fees and as citizens on the ground we are feeling than pain. We do not have serious problems with other Africans from other Countries. The issue with Bolt / UBer drivers in Nigeria and South Africa does not really affect the average South African as most Bolt Drivers in South African are Foreigners. But this does not mean that what South Africans have done to these drivers is right . These Drivers have families to feed and they are doing their jobs rightfully so.

Fellow brothers and sisters from far away. I'm a South African and see all African nations as one. But the quarrel is too much and not called for. We are engaging in different platforms to try and find solutions between the 2 countries, however some are taking advantage of the situation and spread more fire to all these. Now I feel pity for all those who are affected by the uber & Bolt saga, irrespective of which countrymen are affected, these are the people who are trying to make ends meet and feed their families with whatever little they have.

I'm just worried more of the foreign nationals because thy are the ones who are affected most, even though it is allegedly claimed its South Africans who started it, I don't know. But the truth of the matter is that, only few people who are SA citizens are into the Bolt & Ubers business, most population are using normal public transport and private cars.
I could say in a simple terms, 5% South Africans, 45% Nigerians and 50% other foreign nationals combined. The people who are affected most are the Nigerians.

And unfortunately Nigerians in Nigeria see this otherwise, not knowing that they are killing their own brothers in the foreign country. This is too bad for them, so I'm pleading, Please stop continuing with this. SA citizens are quite because it does not affect them, and more Nigerians are on the social media platform bragging about their downfall, It really does hats a lot. Share THIS INFORMATION TO WHOEVER COUNTINUING WITH IT, a big stop.

I really condemn such acts, we have very serious issues to deal with, not this stupidity, Biko, I have made my own contribution.

One thing for sure, there might be consequences for those here at home to account for this bolt challenge, our authorities always make sure if its taken further. But lets also be honest my fellow Nigerians, judgements aside, lets all be accountable to what we do to each other. Let's be the voice for peace in each other's countries, there'll never be unity amongst us if we continuing pointing fingers to one another.

I am honestly tired of it all. And for peace sake I am supporting a naija business today here at home by buying Jollof rice and egosu soup for lunch 👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾🙏🏾

Both governments need a committee with representatives from both countries to investigate the history and put a stop to this trivial matter. ❤

When ladies come together to raise a concern about a situation in a respectfull manners as this ladies does. We as African men must just give them a hearing, this is African way of doing things. We have to respect their concern as our sisters and mothers and take them serious as African Culture dictates. We as men must do things that warrant respect from our woman and this bolt pranks are not one of them.🇿🇦❤

As a Nigerian, I see South Africans as our brothers. It's disheartening to see that many in South Africa aren't aware that we passionately supported their fight for freedom. It feels like our efforts have been forgotten, and now, instead of unity, there's tension. We were taught to respect and love our South African brothers, so when this animosity comes from them, it hurts even more. That's why many Nigerians are so upset—it feels one-sided. I mean we let them have billion dollar businesses in our country. So many investments that benefits their country, not ours. But we never really thought about it so deep, till they started Xenophobia. Its Sad my view on them changed.
