I know of many people who still use the Thunderbolt, myself included. I was surprised more people weren’t making videos featuring this comparison as it’s probably more relevant to more of the demographic that’d buy it than most comparisons. First one I’ve seen.

I just bought a Thunderbolt Display used for $200. I bought an adapter and use it with a Mac mini M1. Works really well, and without a better monitor sitting right next to it, it’s difficult to tell how old it is, because performance is still decent especially for 200

Just bought a Mac Pro 2013 12-core with 64 GB RAM and it came with a Thunderbolt Display for $460. Best purchase I’ve made in a long time. I know the 2013 is pretty old now, but it benchmarks at over 7, 000 multi core in Geekbench. That’s on par with an M1 machine for about half the price, plus a Thunderbolt Display, and it works beautifully.

I’ve been waiting for a video like this! When they released the Studio Display I immediately thought of the Thunderbolt, because they’re the same thing. It’s like going from pre-retina iMac to Retina 5K iMac.

I use my Thunderbolt as a secondary display to my ‘20 5K iMac. For 1440p and it’s age it’s proving it’s worth all these years later.

I bought a used Thunderbolt Display about 3 months ago. Well before I knew the new Studio display was coming out. Doesn’t matter. I love my Thunderbolt Display. I’m trying to decide if I want to buy a second. Yes, there are some differences. But… just not enough for me to spend that kind of money. Especially when I think he old Thunderbolt Display is as nice as it is. Although… that octopus cord is negative.

Thanks, this is actually a GREAT comparison. I had the Thunderbolt Display. I loved it, though even at that time I wished it had a bit more resolution. And I was really curious to hear about how they compared! I think I want the new Studio display even more now….

my job requires to check my designs in a non-retina screen to see how users with old computers would see it, the Thunderbolt monitor let’s me see every single pixel and I can immediately tell when something is off. I can’t fit more than one monitor on my desk, so I’m keeping my Thunderbolt for as long as I can.

After seeing your video I think I can wait a little longer for the new Studio display but only a little, I am certain now that it will be this display's replacement.

I had triple thunderbolt display that is almost 8 years old now and they still work!!! i just had to buy the thunderbolt to USB C adapter

I have one Thunderbolt display at work and one at home, both of which I use with my M1 MacBook Pro. Fantastic displays and you can get them used for a really good price.
