"twitch used to be for losers and I fit in, now it's for normal people and I'm a weirdo again."
"Streaming now is becoming a lot more like mainstream celebrity culture than it used to, and that makes me uncomfortable."
This man speaks nothing but the truth. If you use "internet" to replace twitch and streaming in these two sentences, they make even more sense.

At this point I'm convinced 99% of chat has never had a job in their life

As a programmer, yelling at a computer screen for three years sounds like adequate experience.

you're not a weirdo dude. I have a full time job, a career and when I come home I watch you and you bring me back to this part of my life that I miss, the days where I just gamed and didn't care and shitposted and shittalked with my friends. You're an inspiration.

and you're bald.

It is unbelievable that Asmon has maintained a good grasp on reality given his situation and the absolute shit show of a twitch chat he has to interact with every day.

"The drug has become so diluted that... I don't feel like I'm addicted anymore."

Well said, man. That's one good thing that comes from detached, greedy developers. They're dealers and i hope this whole f2p/p2w racket is put down or destroys itself somehow

I turned 29 this year and decided to pick up Guitar as an isolation hobby a year ago. I still game alot in my spare time but alot of that time has gone to a hobby where I can see tangible results and it feels awesome and fulfilling. When you have something else you take seriously, gaming can become that fun escape again because its not consuming your whole life.

This guy hit really close to home. I've been a gamer since I was 5 years old. Now I'm 34. That hype of a new game, the satisfaction of playing for 12 hours straight, it's just fading away. With each passing year I see that thirst I had for gaming slowly leaving me, and I'm fucking scared cuz I got nothing else that gives me pleasure like gaming does.

It's crazy to know I'm not the only one who feels this way, especially fellow WoW players. What I'd give to go back with the boys energy drinks fast food WoW. Once you're 30 it's never the same no matter how hard you try. Classic was close, never the same

Hot take: If you want to play a game, then play a game. If you want to do something else, do something else. You don't have to choose between gaming 16 hours a day or not gaming at all. A lot of comments seem absolutely all-or-nothing obsessive.

I'm more addicted to youtube or my phone more than I've ever been addicted to a video game

I wish Somayd the best. Didn't know him, but his decision is immeasurably good. Gaming was never meant to be such destructive, selfless work. And being productive, healthy, and balanced just makes gaming so much more satisfying.

"It's time to do something else" That hit close to home. I still have these dreams when I'm a teenager again, not a care in the world... It's summer break and I'm playing video games with my friends till 5 in the morning. Man, those were the days... A lot of people would say that it was wasted time, but I don't regret it for a second. I enjoyed every last moment of those days. But yes, there comes a time in life when it's just time to grow up and do something else. I knew it was over when my friends-list on battlenet started to become like a freaking graveyard. And now I'm the one who hasn't logged in for over 4 years.

But like Asmon says, there are plenty of enjoyable things in life. There are jobs that you actually can enjoy, and maybe even love. Video games are FAR from everything.

50 years old here. Stumbled onto this from Diablo Immortal streams. Age takes its toll. Aging out of gaming is normal. My heroin was Everquest 1 back in the day.

Good on that POE streamer for moving on with his life.

It is weird seeing people blaming the games. It isn't the games... it is existential and searching for meaning. I wish him luck.

My period of irresponsibility ended when I was 26. There were times where I'd take time away from college and do literally nothing, living at home with the parents, just playing games and fucking around. My own guilt led me away from that, so I ended up getting a job in my field.

9 years later and, guess what? I'm still unhappy. And I have a 'meaningful' job working with people with substance abuse. I still play games to escape the fact that I can never seem to be content. We attach way too much meaning to what we do for a living. The US is horrible for it in particular, and it's a source of depression for a lot of people if they feel like they're living like a loser. It's something I wish I gave less of a damn about myself.

When he talked about being 22 living at home.. It genuinely hit me hard. That was me, would go to the gym for 1-2 hours per day with the lads, come home, play games for hours and just have the time of our lives. I met my now wife when I was 23 on Instagram.. She was from the US. I moved here by the time I was 25. I'm now 31 and gaming just doesn't feel the same as it did. None of the homies play like they did and the group that I played games with since i was like 15-16 are gone. It's depressing.

Dude, as a POE player that has a full time job...it's impossible to keep up. Every league is more difficult because of full time streamers that can put 60+ hours a week into the game, and every league adds a learning curve that's near impossible to keep up with if you don't no life all of your free time. It's so frustrating because I love this game, but every three months I just feel like I'm being clapped for no fucking reason.
