Stop Wasting Your Life - Take Control Instead

Whenever I heard the words "addiction" or "addict", the first thing that popped into my head was an image of a bum living on the street, while being high on drugs.

If that's your perception of addiction, then you might think this topic doesn't concern you.
But addiction can be found in other everyday behaviors that nobody would bat an eye for if you were to indulge in them.
It's not exclusive to alcoholics and drug users.

So what I'm going to talk about today is relevant to everyone, because I believe most of us are addicted to something, even if we might not know or want to admit it.
And to improve your life, you don't have to necessarily add a ton of new habits, but rather, eliminate the ones that are holding you down.

If you want to learn more about this topic, you can find the book "The dopamine nation" here:

Our life is mainly controlled by our habits and our emotions. It took me nearly to 2 years to stop playing games on a daily basis and to start working on my channel consistently. 2 years ago it was hard to sit and read 5 pages, nowadays I don't miss a day and it is one of the most pleasure moments in my day. All of this started with Better Than Yesterday, the best self-development youtuber of all time, thank you 🙏

It's ironic that our addiction brought us to your video :)

One thing that wasn't mentioned in this video is Motivation. To break any addiction you need to have a strong WHY. That means reminding yourself consistently of what you gain by eliminating that bad habit. Without a strong reason you'll, most probably, have mixed feelings about stopping addiction. On the one hand, you really want a better free life without addiction, but on the other - you still have a strong neuro-association between your addiction and pleasure. That is extremely hard to break without a burning desire to change it once and for all.

1. Find the trigger and avoid it. 2. One month of time to break addition. 3. Create a barrier to the trigger by changing the environment. 4. Do something difficult instead.

My addiction started in Covid… era, I was addicted to phone like Daily 8-10hours sitting for prolonged period of times no exercise no proper diet and now I’ve come to realise and have started to do exercise, good diet, and phone for only important things.. no entertainment.

The pain/pleasure scale is so true. I feel amazing after I draw or read a book. I feel bad when I spend time on social media or binging YouTube videos

What a great video!!! I transformed my life and quit my addiction at the end of August. I slowly introduced new, healthy, productive habits at that time and now, in December, they are second nature to me. I truly look forward to cooking, eating, working out, seeing friends, and being social. You nailed it. I also have that Dopamine Nation book. It took years of trial and error, but I am so proud of myself today. We all have our own paths. Amazing video. Thank you

Sugar, TV, video games, alcohol, porn, drugs, romance, stimulation, looking good, fulfilling expectations, the multitude of fears, and the multitude of fear-based desires.. I mean, just imagine the toll these things can take on a person's life over a few decades. People, we're lucky to be here listening to these kinds of videos. Be grateful for what you still have, because at the very least you have a bunch of opportunities ahead of you - if you are so fortunate to have the device and the internet to read this. Good luck ahead!

P.S.
For those searching for a really powerful path up this mountain, I gotta suggest a book of practice that I've been using for several years now. It's free online and it's incredibly powerful. It's called _Steps to Knowledge - The Book of Inner Knowing_

I always go through phases where I “change my life around”, develop some great habits, learn stuff, read a lot, etc…but eventually I realize that nothing is ACTUALLY changing, it’s all in my head, so I eventually just get back to square one again.

This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my YouTube channel 3 months ago about self development. Now I have 246 subs and almost > 95 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I couldn’t have learned without getting started in the 1st place.

Music is my drug. Like, I can spent hours doing nothing but listen to music, and before I know it it's night time. I'm going to take this opportunity to better myself with your advices.
See you in 1 month !

I'm addicted to porn, junk food and internet.
These things may not seem bad to society but they've destroyed my life and health.
I've been working on it, I'm slowly starting to eat cleaner, I still struggle with porn at times, ive uninstalled distracting apps, I try to spend my time online focusing on making self improvement videos for my YouTube channel, I've been doing great at that lately without getting distracted, releasing so many videos, I'm finally defeating my internet addiction and using it in a productive manner, instead of being on TikTok or YouTube shorts or social media
