Thank you for watching our ear wax removal video today. The ear wax extraction featured in todays video was carried out using endoscopic microsuction. This procedure uses a small camera called an endoscope to visualise inside the ear canal whilst a small suction tube is inserted to gently remove ear wax.

All the ear wax cleaning videos you see on our channel are carried out by our ear wax specialists Mr Rhys Barber and Mr Taylor Green.

Ear wax plays a vital role in ear health. It helps to prevent ear infection and helps with ear cleaning by picking up any dirt or debris that accumulates in the ear canal. Normally this ear wax would fall out of the ear taking any dirt or debris with it.

How to remove ear wax?

Many people use q-tips/cotton buds for ear wax removal at home this is one of the worst things you can put into the ear as this can lead to an increased ear wax buildup or in extreme cases impacted ear wax. The best way to remove ear wax is to let your ears clean themselves and not to put anything smaller than your elbow in your ears!

How do I know if I have an earwax blockage?

If you experience a change in your hearing, discomfort in the ear or jaw or a feeling of fullness in the ear canal you may have an ear wax blockage. Our advice is to speak to your Doctor or local Audiologist who can take a look in your ears and assess whether ear cleaning is needed.

Yowch! That swimmer’s ear looked so painful. I’ve had a number of ear infections, but never that type, and that’s after years of pools, and a lot of lakes. I hope he feels better soon.

I like how you guys humanise these procedures and also give the background to the specific ear problem. Keep up the good work! From New Zealand.

You gentlemen are terrific and I certainly couldn’t do what you do, but I wonder about the Jobson and the St. Bart’s. Is there not a tool with more of a spoon design? Or even designed like a spork? Seems to me when the suction isn’t working that a tool with a wider “bowl” could get under the wax, pry it loose, and then hold what you’re bringing out the ear canal without it falling off as easily. Just my two cents.

As a native Floridian, my siblings and I were always in the pool or swimming/ skiing in the Indian River or various lakes. We each got swimmers ear (VERY PAINFUL) each summer. Weirdly enough, it was usually from the chlorinated pools rather than the bacteria filled river and lakes. I still remember the pain of even touching the affected ear, and sleeping was difficult.

Sitting here the day after Thanksgiving and catching up on my two favorite audiologists. Enjoying my sausage and eggs and the banter.

Such a very swollen ear canal. Great job clearing the debris after his treatment. Love you guys 👏❤️

I like how you know when to stop rather than trying to go full aggressive cleaning that can potentially cause major discomfort for the patient. Can always do follow up appointments if further cleaning needed.

I've had a problem with swim ear for many years. It's not just pools, washing my hair in the shower will make it fire up. It's itchy, painful and frustrating.

What's the dark square on the eardrum at 4:24? Just a shadow or is that something stuck in there?
