This is why I can't sleep with sleep without something covering my ears

Hey this is for all you who are anxious. This is very very rare and in most cases it's just irritation of the ear. Especially if you have ear tubes (Like me) and it was windy or you went swimming and the earplugs didn't fit correctly. It could also be inflammation or an ear infection which seem easily treatable. Also earwax can also irritate your ears too. I promise in most cases your ear pain is not a bug. There's so many other reasons your ear could be hurting. So don't worry about it. I'd try to seek immediate medical attention if it's hurting too bad, but otherwise just visiting an ENT would be the best bet!

Edit: Also forgot to add that they can also be hurt from pressure or swimmers ear!

As soon as you said "Man from Australia", I immediately understood the rest of the story

Another good reason. I was diagnosed with tongue cancer just over 3 years ago. While my tongue hurt a little the major pain was in my ear on that side.
And I was told by my oncologist that tongue/mouth/throat/vocal chord cancers often present as ear pain.
So persistent ear pain thats not a friggen bug should always be looked into. 👂
Oh. Just had my 3 year post radation therapy check up in February. Still clear! Yay! 🥰

😳 I never mess with ear pain especially when It comes to my kids. This is just a fun little addition to the list of reasons we don’t mess around with ear pain!

I've always been paranoid whenever I'm going to sleep. I experienced getting ants in my ear twice in my life. It was a very uncomfortable experience.

ok that’s absolutely terrifying. i too once woke up after a day at the beach in absolute agony due to a throbbing in my right ear. i skipped school and i cant remember if i had any other illness but i eventually physically could not handle the pain anymore so i got an appointment at the pediatric office and turns out i ruptured the eardrum in my right ear :p

Actually I’m going to share my story on this: a couple years ago I was sitting in gym when I had pain so extreme I gripped my ear and legitimately cried (I don’t cry because of pain that often either so this was concerning) went to the nurse and she looked in my ear and couldn’t find anything(I used to be prone to ear infections) I told my mom and the next day she sat me down at the kitchen table and examined my ear. Not in, but in one of the folds in my ear. She got some tweezers and pulled (the pain was so bad I screamed and pounded my fist on the table) turns out it was a huge tick that had gone unnoticed until it started to feed on me. (I lived in an area where ticks were extremely common so this wasn’t a shock to my mom) so always check your ears. Not just the inside, but the flaps as well.

I remember my story with ear pain. Had it for a month, the whole time we thought it was an infection or something. Turned out to be leukemia

Heh, too bad when you have ear pain most doctors just go "Oh well".
I'm over a year in with an ear pain and it took 4 doctors to get one who was like "Let's try this other treatment", which while it didn't fix it, has helped it hurt less and be less irritating.

Basically, if your ear isn't infected or a hole, they just go; "Oh, TMJD. Oh, Eustachian Tube disorder and we're not going to do anything about it."

X.X

Mine is partial TMJD, but def chronic inflammation inside the ear, as it becomes raw, big red blotches appear on the wall by the eardrum, turns red if it flares up, etc.

However, after steroids and the ear drops for inflammation, and being careful not to irritate it wearing earbuds constantly in that ear or chewing things like tootsie rolls in mass quantity, I can keep it down enough that I'm not waking up in pain so bad I can't lift my head. X.x

I had a moth fly right up to my eardrum. It kept flapping its wings in its panic. It was SO LOUD in my bed and felt like something moving in my brain.
Took over an hour of syringing for it to come out... Still alive.
