Baby Seal Rescued From Fishing Line Loop

Nothing special about this loop of fishing line - we have seen hundreds of those over the past years. The fishing knot is a bit out of the ordinary, the fishing line was probably used to tie something together, not for fishing. There is nothing unique or unusual about the seal or the rescue either, we have also seen hundreds like this over the past few years. This rescue will be a number on our spreadsheet like so many others.
Each disentanglement treats a symptom, not the cause. As long as the ocean is treated like a rubbish dumpster we will add to our growing list of seal rescues. 🦭

A rescued pup is always a victory, no matter what the entanglement is or where it came from. You have been spotting and freeing the pups before they are injured, so after release they can go back to being anonymous Cape Fur seals. For now, that is the best-case scenario. I can't blame you for being exasperated, but don't waste the energy you need for rescues. Thank you for saving this pup, and all the others.🦭🙏

I love how, whether Denzil's full-out charging down the Pelican Point beach, or sprinting for the entangled seal at Cape Cross, artfully dodging the seals AND rocks, that he always looks like he's just out for a morning jog. Actually, the ENTIRE OCN team is absolutely AMAZING, and I'm SO thankful they're always keeping watch over these precious creatures. Thank you for doing what you do SO well!

I’m sure the seal was appreciative of Denzil’s & Naude’s help, but I think this little one saw the guy with the ponytail off in the distance & wanted to get a closer look of the sweet-talking masseuse he’s heard his elders speak of. They call this legend “Tony the Seal Whisperer.” (Still waiting for that slogan on a T-shirt! )
