Lucky baby seal rescued from fishing gear

It's cold and windy at Pelican Point. The team decide to use the kayak to capture the seal pup with a huge ball of fishing line around his back. The catch is not too difficult. This pup was luck and was freed without any major injury. It would only have been a matter of time before the line slowly started tearing into the skin as the seal grows. We wish all the targets were this lucky, but let's not depend on luck. Let's rather make individual changes to our practices to make sure fishing gear does not land in the ocean. Avoid eating fish and help curb global demand. Support policies that can make sure fishing gear is not lost or thrown overboard. Be sure to pick up ghost gear whenever you see it. 🦭

Well spotted, Tony. That old ratty ball of snoek line looks like a ball of dried spaghetti. Thank goodness the puppy was not injured.
Imagine how long it's been bobbing around in the sea. How many times have the tides washed it onto beaches along the coast then washed it back out with the next high tide? How many seals have played with it?
