The water is alittle murky just because we kept moving the bucket and stirred up the sand. If you ran some water thru the filter and kept it in one place it would settle down. The more you used it the better it would be. David

Maybe if you were to boil the water after it ran through the filters it could act as a sort of 4th filter

You could always boil it after filtering.

... You will eventually have a bowl after lots of burning and carving. fill with water and place stones over an open fire for 30 minutes. Carefully place these hot stones into the wood bowl with water. The water will boil. This is a great way to make soup (hence the term "stone soup"). Hope this advice stays in your memory bank and hope you never have to use it.

You still may want to use either a few drops of bleach, water purification tablets or boil your water just to make sure it's safe to drink because in a real SHTF situation, water borne illnesses are no joke.

You can boil water in anything that will hold it. It can be a styrafoam cup or plastic bottle (nasty chemicals, yes, but staying hydrated is more important).


You can also find a solid piece of wood and use a knife or a hard stone (i.e. granite) to carve a deep dent into the wood. Then take some burning ash to "burn" the hole deeper. Remove the ash occassionally by scooping/scraping out the burnt wood of the bowl....

Why not boil it after as well??! Strange he didn't do that .. if you have time to make that contraption, you can gather some wood for a fire ..

If after using this filter your still concerned about the safety of the water use a little bleach or boil it but this type of filter biosand is used thru out the world. We recommend having a good quality ceramic filter but if you dont this will work. David

I would not use suggest charcoal for a BBQ myself, buy some activated carbon (Charcoal) Go to a fish store and buy it in bulk for fish tank filters. I have used it in my own filters I make for my own house for years now. And if you want just a little better taste to the water? Add just a few tiny pieces of natural clay. Even better system if you have the money? Set up a circulating fluval system to keep water moving and keeps cleaning it even better. Sorry, only limited characters here n YT.

You'd be surprised at how much human garbage is around, even in the middle of the wilderness. The ability to make something out of anything is one of the fundamentals of survival. Don't limit yourself!

but adding coffee filter between the bottom and the finish clear water holding tank / jug could remove more of the "cloudiness" of the water

Yes boiling is the surefire method if you do not like the taste of chlorine.

Removing flouride is done by distillation.

Distillation is water in its purest form.
