During the cold war the Swiss had a policy of building fallout shelters in all new homes or at least providing shelter for each inhabitant in one. Thus, most public buildings like schools and hospitals would have larger bunkers underground and new private homes would also have a dedicated fallout shelter. As a result there was quite a market for these air filtration systems.

If the air filter was kept outside the bunker, it would make sense. But the idea of sucking the contaminated particles down into the bunker and trapping them in a filter that will be within arms reach of everyone seems nuts. And then the idea of changing the contaminated filter with a clean filter is even more nuts. Just the thought of popping the lid on the filter mechanism will spread radioactive dust throughout the bunker. The filter must remain outside, or at least in a compartment completely isolated from the bunker other than the filtered air pipe. And if a filter must be changed, the person doing the changing must leave the bunker with proper gear, enter the isolated compartment that has a chemical fume hood that would vacuum away any radioactive particles that get in the air, change the filter, leave the isolated compartment, and reenter the bunker through a real decontamination chamber. The air filter mechanism should be designed so that the contaminated filter is pulled away towards the bottom, so as to decrease the chance that any contaminated dust can get in the clean air pipe.

While the filtration system looks interesting, it seems that the air intake system in most survival shelters is a serious weak point. if the intake is compromised or obstructed, the inhabitants of the shelter will suffocate. Wouldn't a scrubber that removes gasses like CO2 be a better solution? Build the shelters to seal instead of building them to be vented. Just imagine someone putting a plastic bag over your intake and taping it up in order to flush you out. Or, a post war nuclear winter where the snow piles up deep potentially covering the intake and suffocating people sheltered inside. It would be unfortunate to spend the kind of money that some of these modular shelters cost, just to be defeated by a plastic bag and duct tape.

Edit: I do want to add that I love your designs. Just wanted to bring up this one potential issue.

That pretty cool. I always wondered how it was done

Can you install volcanic ash filtration system? We have Yellowstone in North America, which is over due for an eruption. Considering how large Yellowstone is, the area of impact will be large as well and could multiple states. So a volcanic ash filtration system would be quite handy for the people in the impact zone with bunkers. Its actually quite a bit of earthquakes lately which is usually normal but the problem is the amount of them had increased a decent bit.

I’m blown away at how many serious bunker afficionados are on here.

How does the air system work? I think you only showed us the intake and the carbon wasn't hooked up to anything.

Is there a pre-filter up above the ground? I assume there isn't. What happens if highly radioactive particles get filtered out and get stuck inside the filter during fallout? The filter's shell will block Alpha and Beta radiation but Gamma radiation will pass right through thus exposing the shelter inhabitants to high levels of radiation.
I think that the filter element should either be shielded or at least placed as far from the living area as possible.

Brother do you mind sharing what kind of blast valve you use? Would love to know more about them. Thanks for sharing so much. One day I pray the Lord lets me buy one from you. God Bless Brother.

Great that you do use that sytem its one of the best. Please can you just tell us about the life time of the filter ? I couldnt find any intel about that very topic. And yes this sytem is very good it is in nearly every build basement in switzerland. The law was that every building do need an nbc bunker.

He said that you only have to crank the air filter for 6-10 minutes. Is that per hour or per day?

1)For a prolonged stay in a bunker, how long will the 60 pounds of carbon & hepa filter last? 2) Can this be set up so that the 60# of carbon and hepa filter are located 'outside" the actual bunker...an enclosed closet built at one end to keep the build up of filtered material away from the people in the bunker?

What is the power requirement? For scaling a battery...
What is the filter life? And I understand that this varies drastically if you have say a dust storm.
Is there a large particulate (leaves, bugs, etc...) filter prior to this filter in the system?

A shame you don't operate internationally, I'm looking to build a bunker here in UK on my land. Instead, I'm gonna consider underground container bunker but I guess i can still buy that Air filtration system.
