I’ve had type 2 diabetes for 8 years now, when I was first diagnosed my A1C was 10 and I weighed 148 am 5, 3! My doctor also prescribed metformin 500mg twice a day, on my 3 month checkup my A1C was 5.9 and I weighed 122 pounds only on metformin and eating right! 8 years later my A1C went up a little to 6.2 but my weight stayed pretty much the same well 125. You have to watch what you eat, the cards and sugars are your enemies well if you consume a lot of it. You can eat whatever you want in MODERATION that is the key here and also don’t consume too much food in one meal keep it light and wait at least 3 hours to have a snack and by snack I mean an apple strawberries any berries almonds without all that sugar or salt you get it and also read the labels on what you are drinking there is a lot of sugar and cards in just your drink alone, so between your meal drink appetizer etc you probably just went wayyyy over your calorie and carb and sugar count for the day and now you can’t eat till tomorrow again Lol anyway the fasting will do you good. You will be surprised at how you look and feel when you take most of the sugars carbs and calories out of your meals. eat lots of whole grains FIBER it keeps you regular veggies and fruits, nuts and protein and you will feel better. I wish you guys all the best and keep a good attitude about this disease and learn to manage it bc if you don’t learn to control this disease it will control you, and that’s when all your problems begin! Sorry this was soo long!!!

I was diagnosed with diabetes April 11 after going into the hospital with a kidney stone..At the hospital, had a blood pressure of 220/115 and my blood sugar was at 390. My A1C level was 12.6. Was put on 500MG metformin twice day and 30 MG Pioglitizone once a day. I completely changed my diet. Have had ZERO negative side effects of Metformin. On August 1st (3 1/2 months later), my A1C was down to 5.6. I asked the doctor to take me off of Pioglitizone and I am currently testing this out now. I feel great and will get a new A1C update February of next year. In addition, I do the following EVERY DAY. I take a raw tblsp of extra virgin olive oil every morning, a tbsp of apple cider vinegar with water b4 every dinner and about 9 pm a cup of hibiscus tea with 1/2 tspn of cinnamon

I had bouts of diarrhea when I started taking metformin. My doctor advised i should keep to it, that my body will adjust to it. I did, and i got over the gastrointestinal issues. It's been working well for me. Its been eleven years now.

I stopped taking my Metformin and started controlling my diabetes with diet alone; my sugar levels are lower now than they were on the drugs.

Metformin lowers B12 and can cause high lactic acid levels and induce lactic acidosis which happened to me twice. It didn't happen right away it was after being on it for a few years and I also had gastro issues from it constantly. Now I can't take any diabetic meds in the same category as metformin because they also induce lactic acidosis. And it caused neuropathy because my b12 levels were low for too long. I really wish drs would address these side effects with patients and really explain how important it is to change our diets instead of just pushing meds on people. Thank you for reading this.

My mom was on Metformin from the time she was about 40 till she was almost 90. So I guess it worked for her. The doctors decided tho to switch her to something else at about 90 years of age. I don’t know why but it may have had something to do with her constant UTI’s. 🤔🤷🏼‍♀️ She lives in another state and my sister takes care of her. She is 91. We all visit her though etc. We love our sweet little Mamasita 🥰

I take one a day.
I have been doing it since I was 66 years of age.
And I am now 77..
I really don't like to take any medicine, but my doctor said that we have to control your Type 2 diabetes.
And that was the first time I knew that I have it

Went on a gluten-free keto diet lifestyle, and I brought my glucose down to 80-90. There are better choices than meds. Eliminating processed food, sugar, enriched flour based foods, rice, and grains are foods that raise glucose. Protein and high fiber diets helped me drop 50 pounds in 6 months.

I take slow release Metformin and never had any issues. The standard form did give me stomach problems.

I have been on metformin for 3months and did not have any side effects. I have lost 18 lbs, drastically changed my eating habits which has not been easy but I just had my glucose test after 3 months and it went from 8.5 to 6.0 . Now I just have to maintain that on a daily basis. I am learning... exercising is a huge hurdle for me and I have challenged myself with a virtual challenge through walking, running, biking (indoor in my case) and learn about different areas of the world while exercising; it motivates me to exercise. I watch walking tours on YouTube and do some form of exercise ... exercises sitting in a chair is good too. Anything to get me moving. It's NOT easy and I can't say I do it every day, but my goal is to change that. I wish you all well.

I was prescribed Metformin for Type 2 diabetes. Combined With modest changes in diet, it brought my diabetes under control. Thankfully, My only side effect from taking Metformin was diarrhea for about a week until my body became accustomed to it. I can now even take it on an empty stomach with virtually no effects. Thankfully, it’s also inexpensive.
