I paid 50 bucks a pop for some Walmart tires to be shipped to my front door.. at that price all they have to do is stay round and hold air. you get what you pay for.

Two years isn’t that bad it’s still within spec and you’re gonna burn them out in 3 1/2 years anyways

As long as tires are stored dry, not inflated, and I’m the dark the date codes are informative. Tires don’t really age if stored properly. This coming from family that’s been in the tire business for almost 100 yrs

This is common with any tire distributor, not just discounted ones

I’ve ran two different tire shops. Thank you for making this video more people need to know how to read their DOT codes. I’ve gone to buy cars that are advertised as having great tires that are 10 years old. They just barely drove the car.

I have been buying tires online since I figured out how to do it. The key is to buy name brands, and from a reputable store.

Don't buy used, and don't buy 3rd world tires. Unless you're going to immediately put on the for sale sign up on your ride.

As someone who deals with commercial truck tires, 2 years is nothing for concern. 5 years and you need to be slightly concerned.

Although not as likely, this still happens at many shops. I get 100 tires in of X size, and sell 99, then get 100 more. I don’t rotate my stock and just put new on top of old. The last 4 that are mounted of this stack will be 3 new and 1 old. This is just due to poor inventory management and not going on a ‘first in, first out’ basis. All shops can fall prey to this, big or small, online or brick and mortar.

That being said the D - department O - of T - transportation (DOT) number is very important to know about. Also register your tires, that way you can be notified of any recalls (it’s also the law.)

Bought tires from tire rack several times. Each time, they were six months or less old when delivered. Most recent local discount tire purchase were 5 months old.

I'll give you 1 year not 2. Only 58 week difference.

People bring Amazon tires all the time to our shop. Some of them come back and try to warranty them. You get what you pay for.also counterfeit tires exist so buying a major brand isn't always what you are getting.

The best tires I've ever had were cheap Chinese tires off Amazon. They had amazing wet traction, amazing traction in general, lasted forever, and were quiet. They were just regular all season tires and they were $49 a peice. I've been getting them ever since however prices have gone up dramatically thanks to Bidenomics.

Maybe if the tire was 5-10 years old that could cause a problem but definitely not when its only a couple years. The date is definitely something to keep an eye on

A lot of deals you get online yes but many of them are discontinued if not very shortly after you buy them. Dates are typically older as well.

So i went to a "reputable" tire shop in my town.

3 tires are from the same batch, one isnt.

They put excessive wear on my clutch, tried to con me into buying lugnuts because they used an SAE socket on Metric lugs.

Now a year later, ALL 4 tires are nearly bald.

18k is apparently all a 60k rated Goodyear tire is good for.

Now i get to fight them for replacement as I paid for the manufacturer certificates.

Never trusting a big box tire store again

For my tires I get them off ebay and I've been doing this for little over a decade, especially when your tire size is 14 and the only other option in store is a 700$ for a set that only lasts 25k miles if you're lucky then I'm absolutely buying online.
My mother didn't know that her tires were new from ebay until she was driving with them for 6+ months and she was still convinced that I was overcharged when in actuality I got them for little over 200$ cheaper then her estimate.
