Before anyone says anything, yes, I'm well aware that Pyro only controls fire and doesn't generate it. I was using an X-men reference to describe the fire manipulator. Don't make it a big thing.

Another show, written by people who don’t know what people act like, are ignorant to the rules of physics and like to place all their stuff into the infamous mystery box. Watching this I have also learned that London has always been diverse, even in the 19th century, women kick ass and don’t need no man and patriarchy is bad. I think I should go rewatch “The Grimm” or “The Tick” from 2016, those shows are better.

So far this seems like a better put together show than the irregulars on Netflix

When the trailer for this series first came out, because the only people “touched” seemed to be women, I theorised that it was a metaphor for female empowerment. When I submitted this in the comments, it was pointed out that it was not just women, so I reconsidered. However, having watched the first two episodes, I have adjusted my theory and it is now that the effect of being touched is a metaphor for empowerment in general, because the people “touched “ are not the powerful elite or white men but the marginalised, either women or non-whites (Dr Cousens) or both (Harriet Kaur); it is pretty obvious that Augustus Bidlow is “touched” and, I’m guessing here on the basis of the liberal agenda present, is probably going to be revealed as gay, to keep in with the marginalised metaphor. Having said that, I am enjoying it- good, sharp dialogue (I was enlightened by the brief discussion about the difference in usage between “employee” and “the employed”- good characters, nice twist at the end of episode two. Two caveats: there is a great use of the word”fuck” by women and people in general; was this likely in Victorian London? And the word “bloody”, much more common, has not been used. And I know Whedon is attacking Trump xenophobia, but I think it unlikely that an inhabitant of the capital of the largest empire in the world would find foreigners unusual and would tell a foreigner who was asking for directions to “go back to Italy”.

My girlfriend suggested this show, and ONLY because you were even suggesting reviewing it did I agree to watch it. So far it's tolerable (had to find something else to binge after we ran out of The Expanse)

That opening scene is the whole of the Falcon and the Winter Soldier to me.

Thank you thank you thank you!!! I’ve been looking for someone covering this show as many seem to be staying away due to the Whedon affiliation. Cool show. I love it. The actress playing Maladey is absolutely amazing

This whole show is like team Buffy from Whedon to Jane Espenson an Doug Petrie who serve as both writers and executive producers. Oh, and I loved it too.

It's like the universe is trying to apologize to you for the crime that is Batwoman TV 😏

"touched" is an old way of saying crazy. If I remember right, it means touched by the gods, per the ancient Greeks.

Eh I still can't get past the girl power vibe. I say skip this one and watch something older and more obscure.

When she beats up the two men, the kid's like "The Lady did a wrestle!"
Really. He's not freaked out she could beat up two men, each of whom outweighs her by a hundred pounds. He's not amazed by the existence of Kung Fu like fighting. Not stunned by the stunning scrapper going at in a corset, bustle and heels. Nope. It's VIOLATED GENDER NORMS that freaks this kid out.

so another gynocentrism show where women have everything they need to defeat men at every turn, shockingly new and innovative, yawn

And just like that I decided I'll watch the first episode

I get that the steampunk inventor is brilliant but where does she continue getting a king's ransom in rare materials to build the things she does?

Nah, I think I'll pass on it. Too much risk of a woke agenda.
