Joss kills your favorite character. So his imprint is still there. The lake fight scene was priceless.

Good review. I really enjoy your work. I didn't feel a whole lot of tension during the Odium fight because it was obvious that she wasn't going to lose. That being said I thought it was an entertaining scene and I was really impressed by the technical elements of it. I need to rewatch the episode because I didn't realize the one guy was gay, so I must have missed some dialogue. I understand that it made sense what happened to Mary was coming because she was kind of a one trick pony in terms of her turn. Still it felt like it was thrown in there almost for shock value. I could do without all the sex. I agree it clutters up the plot. Maybe all that stuff will tie neatly in later on, but for most people I think it takes away from the show a bit. I felt the same way about game of thrones where it could be rather pointless and may have even caused some people to lose interest. I think this show can stand on its own without all the extraneous sex scenes.

Great review. While it's true this episode didn't have the Whedon touch I found it a little more straightforward and easier to follow. I'm o.k. with a slow reveal of the character's motives as long as there are revelations in the end.

I was enraged to the point of bleeding from my eyes with the death of Mary. We who are avid, ardent fans of Eleanor Tomlinson have been waiting nearly two years for her return to episodic television...and we got three measly episodes.

Amalia engages in fights as if she knows her ultimate destiny. Or at least she'll survive the current situation.

I don’t know if Whedon has a directorial prowess to do the lake scene tbh. But story and overarching plotwise, we might miss Whedon. Having said that, he has left the show in good writers’ hands and I think he would have mapped out most of the direction of the story imo anyway. So, it should be good. I love the dialogue in this show above all else.

Thought Swann was Touched, I think u nailed it, maybe why Lord Massen grabs him so aggressively? Idk kind of rapey if that is his gift 😬

The story does seem to be a bit convoluted, Hugo and his "raison d'etre"? Livinia set up etc. Yes at this point so many questions but maybe much of this is still ground work. The first time I watched The Last Kingdom (fantastic show) I had a hard time figuring out what was what for the first couple of episodes. GoT may have packed a punch in its' 1st season which lead me to read all the books, but unless you had either read the 1st book or re-watched a few times, you really didn't know what was going on either. The writing will have to be really good for this show

I thought the Odium fight scene was great but too predictable with the little lady beating the crap out of a man 4x her size. Ho-hum. As a viewer, we knew Amalia was never really in mortal danger. She never is, which takes some of the tension out of the fight scenes. She always comes out on top no matter how far fetched nor how many men are up against her.

Odium with his menacing looks and water repelling abilities had the potential to be a great recurring (secondary) bad guy. He was killed too soon in the series. They should've kept him around longer.

One thing I have to say is that they stupid for going to the park why not the courtyard where they can control that location. I was looking at it and many of the people aren't acting logical. I mean so many are hunting them and they go to a open location and I called what was going to happen. Its just too easy of a plot to see that was the answer. Poor writing for plot and it was too normal of a thing to happen in many of these shows.

Amalia touching, seemingly observing her face again.. plus the fact that she said to the Beggar King that it's not her face.. could she have changed appearance before?
