I think you just re-sold me on using the R5’s 8KRAW. Haha. I’ve been shooting exclusively CanonLog3/CinemaGamut 4K23.98(standard) and 4K120.

When you say you grade the footage, do you mean you just get the footage to rec 709 and then grade the prores file after the edit? I feel like grading every single clip before you edit is kind of tedious since you may or may not use that footage in your edit. What happens if you want to change the grade drastically? Does the prores allow for this? Jumping into the R5 real soon and having to relearn workflow since jumping from sony.

I used to work like this with Blackmagic cameras. I would shoot raw then do a generic grade and export the prores file. It's not an ideal solution either.

Would doing 1080p 444 make a huge difference with color grading vs 1080 422? I know it will increase the size some.

I'm new to raw workflow, but my basic understanding is (correct me if I'm wrong)...You basically do all of your color grading work up front and then do you editing after? Basically backwards from traditional editing where you layout your timeline and then do color work at the end? Thanks!

Great tip!! For this kind of workflow transcoding directly from the CF Express in a card reader do you think Angelbird card with their dedicated card reader is a good solution?

my R5 suddenly dorsn't record to crm formats it records only mp4 no matter what video settings I put !!?? any one know what causing the issue ??

Good workflow until we get Ninja V+ with 8k ProresRaw :)

Does it makes sense for an R5 user to invest in and use Ninja V+ for Prores raw vs using the raw light version from R5. Is it about the same size files? Does raw light have higher visible IQ than Prores?
