- While serving time in Georgia for a bank robbery (before he began his crime spree), Pruett’s cellmate was murdered. During the trial for the perpetrator, Pruett testified against another inmate, claiming that he was the one responsible for carrying out the murder. Then, in exchange for this testimony, Pruett was released from prison in 1979 and placed in the witness protection program. However, despite his earlier testimony, Pruett would later admit that he was the one guilty for the murder of his cellmate all along.

- During his trial for the murder of his common-law wife, Pamela Sue Barker, Pruett admitted to robbing her, but denied that he killed her (she was beaten to death and set on fire). He was found guilty. Then from death row, he asked a Mississippi newspaper to pay him $20, 000 to disclose the location of Barker's engagement ring, and offered to reveal the location of a Florida victim's body in exchange for a paid appearance on Geraldo (a talk show).

- Pruett’s initial request for his final meal was a roast duck. However, this request was rejected by the prison. Pruett then settled for the meal outlined in the video, and in an interview prior to his execution date, said he was going to share this meal with another inmate who was going to be executed the same day.

I always imagine that I’d pick delicious junk food like pizza and French fries but if it came down to it I’d want nostalgic comfort food from my childhood, probably vegetable pot pie with a side of biscuits and gravy or even grilled cheese and tomato soup-stuff I grew up on. I think that’s one reason that a lot of people request pie. They want something their mom or grandma made when they were kids.
