With the fuel shortage on the south east, what are your options when 91 or 93 octane isn't available? Can putting lower octane fuel hurt your engine?
Watching this video, I'll show you couple of things you can do to offset that and what is the safest for your vehicle.
Can you put regular fuel in your gas tank if it requires premium? Hopefully you questions are answered.

Owner of 2006 Acura TSX. Recommended 91 but I typically have to put in 93 because 91 isn't available where I am. A few times I have put in 87 and no damange occured. I did notice with 87 there is little less power and my MPG is worst by a little. MPG goes up with 93.

The owner's manual clearly states that you can use low octane fuel (in an emergency) the onboard knock sensor will re-calibrate the computer to prevent any potential damage to the engine. While it is not ideal to use low octane fuel if there is a shortage of available petrol and that is all you have it will be a okay for a emergency situation, ideally we should only use premium fuel in our premium cars.

What I have found here in Knoxville, the 87 and 89 runs out first, so if they have fuel, it will be 93, so I have been good. I hope people stop panicking soon, so this becomes a non-issue.

Thank you for the video. I live in Smyrna, GA, a suburb of atlanta. I able to get fuel on Tuesday morning without any issues.

I know i’m a few years late but. I have a 2024 430i and accidentally filled it up with 87, it got a check engine light and i’m kind of scared. Will I be okay to drive it and just burn of the 87 and then fill it back up with premium when needed?

I have an X5 2019 & I’ve been putting 87 in mine since I drove it off the lot. The car drives fine. Also I have a 2013 Lexus GS & that also gets 87. Who has time for this craziness going on? Put the fuel at the station & get going.

I would say better to run what is recommended for the car from the car manifacturer putting less will be hurting in the long run putting higher will be waist of money and will be not that helpful.
Once in a while it will not hurt in premium car to run regular but be protective to not run full throttle and easy movement but for long term run what is needed from car manifacturer best sources : fuel door, owners manual, car manifacturer site

Should I be using higher grade gas on my 2018 Subaru Forester turbocharged. Even though the gas door says “unleaded only” but premium is preferred

My car Fuel door only put number 95RON and in manual said select premium fuel Research octane 95 for optimal engine performance if not found you can use 91 Research octane number temporary so I think it suggest that premium is needed and should be the fuel to go what do you think

I have a truck that is tuned on 93 octane. Do you think I can put in 87 even thought it is tuned for 93 octane?

I had a premium fuel car once. Tried regular. It ran like shit. It's not worth messing up your car to skimp on fuel grade.
