Run whatever octane the manufacturer says to run, in that particular model

When scorty talks about a modern car he means 1980+

By that same token, just because a car cost more, doesn't mean it's a better car.

I use premium gas for my small engine items, chain saw, lawn mower weed eater etc. It just last longer when in storage before it goes bad.

Every 4 or 5 tank fulls of regular Shell gas, I throw in a tank of the V-Power Premium Shell. I swear the 2016 Honda HRV knows the difference. I thought maybe it was mind-over-matter until my wife took the car shopping. She returned and said, "Did you tune up the car? It is running better than ever." It was the day after fueling with the premium. It does run better for us on the expensive stuff.

In my experience Shell V power keeps the valves cleaner, engine runs smoother and gets better gas mileage=less carbon build up. It has also less ethanol witch can destroy rubber parts of your engine in the long run.

Judging by the questions being posed here, everyone is still confused about which level of octane they should use. Hilarious!

I still can't understand why Scotty's great tips don't include advice to not hang your keys from your trousers - Paint scratcher avoidance tip No. 1 from me.

Premium gas actually is good for cleaning your injectors and valves. Once a month, tank of premium will do

If you are confused on what gas to use, crack open your users manual and it will tell you what's recommended. For example my 2015 Q50 recommends 91 and up so I only use that octane or higher.

I put 89 in my Tacoma and I noticed a great difference compared to 87. Idk if it’s different anywhere else but I’m in CA and when I use 89 I feel more torque and my gas pedal feels more responsive. Like at a red light on 87, it turns green I slowly push and the trucks starts to go slowly. But with 89 I push a little and boom she just feels like she wanna go

What you’re failing to mention is, it takes more fuel at lower octane to create the same energy, or HP as you would with higher octane. So it does matter.

I catch a lot of crap for this, but it’s only 91 grade or higher for the V8 powered ‘03 4Runner that was passed down to me. It ran it’s entire life on regular and was averaging 15mpg.. I got it mid last year, used the better stuff and am getting 18-19 in mixed driving! My rule of thumb has always been to use whatever the manufacturer recommends.. and in my Toyota’s case, they actually state in the manual that the better stuff will “increase performance”.

I had a o2 sensor issue and i was told to put supreme from Chevron to clean it out. Seemed to work cuz the check engine light hasn't came back on for months

A lot of Acuras Hondas and my Nissan are tuned for 93. you should always check the manual because it will typically tell you what octane the car is tuned for out of the factory.

Sorry but it really depends on the car. I had an infinity. Didn't think anything when I first got it and put regular in it for the first 6 months. Got horrible gas milage and developed a knock. They had to scrub the entire entire because the buildup from regular gas almost ruined my engine. That's when I was told mid grade at the very least, but when I switch to premium I got about 8 miles p/gallon better on my gas milage.

I have owned a 2007 Yamaha FZ1 sport bike since new. The bike has about 22, 400 miles. My motor is 1000cc's of screaming 150 crank horsepower at about 12, 000 rpm's. My manual states to use 87 octane. That is all I ever have used! Never any knocking, etc. Runs great, and I have a very high performance 1000cc motor!!
