So my mom took my WRX one day and she drove it a lot then wanted to be courteous and fill the tank back up. She didn't know she was supposed to use 93 and put in 87 instead. I drove it the next day and immediately experienced a decrease in power and had some serious boost creep. I had to get a siphon and take out the 87 and put it in a bunch of gas cans then filled it back up with 93. That was the last time I let anyone else drive my car.

95 oct is the minimum in Germany, 98 oct called "Super Plus", for the very high performance cars

A lot of sports car have aluminum blocks and heads too for weight add in a 11.1 compression and power adders u need 91 just to keep it breathing right lol I'm in Colorado I figured this out the hard way

Thanks for spreading accurate information. Just to add on that knock he is talking about is detonation and it can cause severe engine damage if it detonates enough times or just the right way.

For clarification: Some places in europe have "95" and "100" octane but its a different measurement system. That 100 octane is the same gas as U.S 93 octane its just a different measurement unit like miles vs kilometers

Fun fact, octane rating is fuels' resistance to burn, so yeah, you pay more for fuel that isn't as easy to ignite (the reason it's required is that higher performance engines have more factors that will cause auto ignition of the fuel, and uncontrolled explosions are very bad in an engine)

"why sports cars need 91 octane"

Lexus owners: "we drive sports cars?"

Here in Australia we have 91 95 and 98 octane fuel at all petrol stations and for the eco friendly people we have e10 but I put 91 to keep it sweet cause e10 isn’t really good for injectors

Here in Italy we have at least 95 oct, with 98 as a mid-range and 100 oct for performance

I'm with that Impreza its definitely beautiful, but I think your paint guy might have shorted you by not painting it all white as you can see in your gas door. An other small places. STILL FIRE 🔥🔥🔥

Yeah from now on I should be putting 93 on my skyline. This one crucial fact could have been catastrophic for my car, but thanks for telling me!

I’ve only ever used 91 as a base fuel. I put lower when I was younger and felt like my car was cammed out.

Down here in the bahamas we barely get 87 octane. It runs my 1j swapped m3 fine. I will say plugs and filters service more. I would have to import race fuel if I wanted higher octane levels

In Europe 95 and 98 octane fuel is a standard. If you want to you can even try to Look for 100 octane.

Here in Australia, 91 is our bottom end octane. Most our higher end stuff runs on 98

It’s why I keep octane booster in my car. If someone else drives it and fucks up and puts 87 in, then it’s a least a bandaid until it gets proper 91 in it

We only have 92 and 95 octane 😂😂😂
Cause we all drive Sports cars 😎

The engine most likely wouldn't knock, it'd just be a decrease in power but overall would be fine. Can even run lower octane ratings for an extended time and it'll still be fine.
