Symptoms of others is the problem. Somebody tells me about their gallstones, and I get cramps and get sick. My doctor once told me I should study medicine, because this was allegedly badly needed in their craft: people who understand the bodies of their patients like their own, but I refused the idea, because if a patient of mine would die, it would drain and consume me.
Hospitals are completely overwhelming and laming. I don't know where to start and once I started helping, where to stop. I would get trapped in a hamster wheel, and would be unable to get off, because I'd feel responsible about everybody there.

Yes, we empaths do have the potential for all these possibilities, and regardless if the empath knows or doesn't know what they are doing these kind are known as dark empaths. There are also Super and Sigma empaths. These 2 kinds of empaths have graduated from being normal empaths and became leveled up educated empaths. It does matter how an empath uses their knowledge, wisdom, and experience and what we use it for. We can be much more intelligent than many people might think us to be and that is something to watch out for as well.

I am an autistic "superempath" (autism dials this up to 11) and agree with this 110%.

Empaths with trauma that has not been addressed or not able to do self-reflection with external, critical feedback, are dangerous! I was, and so are many others I know.

A damaged empath looks a lot like a sociopath / someone with anti-social personality disorder. The difference is that when an empath's trauma is healed / addressed, their empathy for others living through the same trauma drives them to help, not hurt. Sociopaths can't do that because they are deficient in the empathy that leads to remorse.

Even so, all empaths need to set boundaries, so we are not sucked into resentment, which can pull us into the vicious codependency triangle of rescuer > used & abused > user / abuser.

A healed, self-aware empath uses their powers for good. But a wounded, overconfident one, lacking reflection and / or restraint, can cause personal wounds so deep, and for so long, it can take years for their victims to recover.
