Basically what is said is "Pull yourself up by your bootstraps". "Just do it" Is like saying to someone who is sad to just to be happy. I agree that there is no magic pill or miraculous piece of advice, but this is not even advice. For instance, Jordan Peterson talks about doing the Future Authoring Program (with a positive and negative vision for the future) and creating schedules and improving slowly and incrementally: this is true, but is overwhelming, and difficult to maintain (At least I couldn't). Mel Robbins' "five second rule" is great but you'll eventually start to procrastinate on the rule itself. I really don't know the solution; this is an ingrained habit, I'm a person very high in neuroticism, overprotected by my parents, with self-esteem problems, behind in life (so I have many overwhelming things to do), so how can I overcome this shit? I've tried the "Just do it approach" for years (btw, a very masculine and willpower based approach, but also useless, like most solely willpower based advises) and it hasn't worked...

I've been a procrastinator for as long as I can remember.

I believe focusing on diligence is the way to start overcoming this issue. You'll find dozens of tiny examples if you start looking for it.

You have to start somewhere, there is no way around it.

Thank you Kevin, often I find that we want a complicated answer to simple things. Its takes too long to study everything and do nothing unless you're being paid to research and study.

this is completely useless... the people who are trying to figure out how to stop procrastinating know that they should start doing something NOW, yet something is stopping it from happening. this advice is just as good as telling someone with depression to just get over it and be happy. this is disrespectful to people who are really struggling.

Kevin, you broke this down perfectly! Very valuable information for procrastinators.

I think it's very true at some point. I've incorporated to my life the 3 minutes rule: "Everything that can be done in less than 3 minutes, do it immediately" (Or 5 minutes, who cares, it means a little time) and my surroundings are much better, super organized. The problem is that I'm still procrastinating over the BIG stuff. I think it goes deep down to fear of failure/bad self esteem or something like that.

I would like to say that Kevin is right about this. However, the biggest problem with his philosophy is that it presumes everyone is procrastinating for the same reasons. Wheareas in reality we know that humans neurotypes are incredibly diverse. I would say this approach is perhaps the most applicable to the most common neurotype.

This is profoundly true I think because we're looking for an easy and painless way to break through and do the thing we should be doing, but it doesn't exist. We somehow have to get ourselves to begin doing the thing. It won't necessarily be easy, but it is the only way that works. Later on we can laugh at why we were afraid of it because by then it will have disappeared.

Then how do you overcome the fear you have of actually facing something you don’t want to encounter? That’s why people procrastinate. Because they’re afraid of finding out what’s behind the door. “Just do it, ” is something you have to be ready for, and the way to get ready is to learn how to overcome fear first. Please talk about the first step (overcoming fear), so we CAN take the next step and actually open that door.

Stop procrastination is to quit quitting

Honestly, as soon as he spoke I felt it was the truth. In order to stop procrastinating, you have to stop procrastinating. That almost sounds ridiculous but it really is that simple. The other important part of it is that you have to start small, as small as you can manage. Then Mr. Ward says to reward yourself every time you successfully do so. No matter who you are, you will eventually train yourself to be better at not procrastinating this way and then you can apply that to more and more important things in your life. But you have to start small and it will take a long time and a lot of effort. That sounds fine to me because the alternative is doing nothing or doing more research and ... look at that, you're procrastinating again!

Whoa that’s actually a great advice! I start celebrating every time I do something meaningful. Guess that’s how you can train yourself to commit massive action

This concept almost sounds too easy, same like telling a depressed person stop being sad. Or an obese person stop eating too much. In reality there are often bigger underlying causes for unhealthy habits, which definitely are worth looking into with a coach or therapist 🙏

So obvious instead of wondering why I procrastinate, just do it! LOL liked the idea that we should acknowledge everything we do that isn't procrastinating.

I would get stressed out about my previous scores if I kept scores. I just know I will. What to do then?
