Are You a Highly Sensitive Person? | Kati Morton

There are many online tests you can take to find out if you are an HSP or not, and I am sure many of these are helpful and accurate, however, there isn’t a tried and true test or assessment that mental health professionals use. Just wanted to throw that out there. Also, after reading about the HSP, I realized how negatively we view the word “sensitive” when it can actually be a very positive and helpful quality. So just pay attention to how you view that word and how you use it in your life. And if using the term “highly sensitive person” is bothersome to you, feel free to make it your own.. You could call it “highly intuitive person” maybe. Whatever works for you. Oh, and also know that HSP is not the same as Sensory Processing Disorder, some scientists call HSP “Sensory Processing Sensitivity” but know that sensory overload is merely one part of HSP.

One of my bosses told me it's okay to be sensitive because it means my heart is in it, that was the most valued i have ever felt.

My absolute biggest pet peeve is when a person invalidates someone’s actually valid feelings by calling them “too sensitive”.

I’m an HSP. It’s really a gift and a curse. Majority of the time I feel misunderstood by most people.

People are always like “damn, you’re so quiet in groups!” Nah fam, I’m just observing y’all

It's so incorrect for people to think that sensitive people are weak. It's the opposite. We are strong because we process and digest so much more than others and we are still living in this world

So this is why I'm always tired when I'm around people

HSP's tend to be more compassionate and caring. I know I can't seriously hurt others because my own heart is breaking at the same time just thinking about their pain. Plus you are always left wondering why people can't see things the way you can because we process things so deeply.
This video is really helpful.

I’m a HSP, if you are too then that’s okay❤️ You are not alone!

Being an HSP, because we can feel emotional shifts in rooms easily and nearly read others thoughts (even when they are negative), I’ve found myself more sensitive to others judgement. Something that’s really helped me function better is to know that their judgements aren’t validated because they don’t know me or the depth of me therefore their judgement doesn’t need to be internalized. *this doesn’t stand as a substitute for just not being around people that make you feel shitty, take care of yourself!* ❤️

Some people have called me sensitive when I cry after they make me feel bad. I am sensitive and proud because i am intuitive. I am sensitive not a "snowflake" Be proud if you're sensitive and don't let people make you feel bad 😊✨❤

As an Introvert/Highly Sensitive/Empath, many of the avg "Joes" think that we are too quiet, too weird and too weak.

Too bad for them, cause we are almost always the most loyal of all Humans.

"All feelings are warranted and ok." that's not how my family feels about it

I am an HSP and an Empath and I feel like I have been "rescuing" people my whole life.  Holy Smokes, I am tired.

I’m an HSP and a hospice nurse. Some days are incredibly tough. I’m learning to not absorb other people’s pain. It’s a challenge.

I am a HSP introvert/emparh. I am intoned with reading people's negative vibe: the way they stare at me, they way whisper to each other and giggle as they look at me, the rolling of eyes as I speak...the list goes on and on, it use to destroy me. During the Pandemic, I reflected on me. Now, I'm on this Journey to self discovery and I am loving me.

Learning to appreciate and even love my sensitivity was truly life changing!!

Still to this day, evryone I know has always told me I'm being too emotional or sensitive so I tried to hide my emotions which only made things worse. I felt like I couldn't talk to anyone about my feelings because I thought they wouldn't validate them. I always found myself deeply connecting with music and it was hard trying to find anyone as passionate as I was about things like plays or musicals. When I learned about the HSP I was so elated and felt like I was finally understood! I'm still learning how to take better care of myself but learning is the first step!

"the problems we face aren't due to our emotions, it's actually due to our judgement of them."
this is such a good explanation, thank you 🙌🏻

I think that artistic nature is a common trait of HSP's too. Pondering the world, interested in information, interested in details and the ability to sense things deeply (literally- sensitive) are all traits that artists have.
