You still avenged your Finger Maiden, which he just killed back in the chapel behind you, that you come out of. The hole in the roof suggests the Grafted Scion dropped in through the roof, killed her, and then went outside to wait for you so he could kill you, too.

Killing him avenges your murdered Maiden.

the swords he gives u are fucking amazing. like radahn's swords, they come in a pair with a powerful weapon art that does tremendous damage. they also upgrade on sombers and are a powerful early-mid game weapon, even late game

So, I actually beat the Grafted Scion after a long time of repeated tries but I have a wierd question...
In many videos I've seen, after beating the Grafted Scion, when the player spawns in the proper tutorial zone after dying from the falling rocks, the player appears to keep their 3200 souls. I however, didn't! I can see my 'bloodstain' on the world map far away as if I'd died 'normally' but obviously, I can't get back. Does anyone have any thoughts/reasoning on this? Thanks!

Took me 2 hours to kill him, it is not an easy task

Well one other reason not to do this is that if you come back later its a bunch of runes you can get. Doing it this way means you probably lose them and since you can't go back until liurnia you're probably going to die at least once before then.

I think it also opens the door on the side of the church. Not 100% sure.
