You can kill this boss later in the game by entering a portal that teleports back to the starting area, you can find it very early in LIURNA OF THE LAKES

Tip: if you didn't get it at start you can still fight him again. If you go to the four belfries located on the left side of lurnia you can activate one of the portals to get to the boss, to activate the portal you'll need a key (imbued key) there's a free one at the four belfries in a chest if you don't have that one anymore you can still get the other ones at 1. Raya Lucaria Academy or 2. Sellia, Town if Sorcery. "The portal will not go away and you can still fight the boss after dieing"

you can actually revisit this area through one of 4 bell tower’s portal, the locked door will also open

So, extra secret, you can actually re-attempt the tutorial boss through one of the Four Belfries, giving you the exact same gear, so don't sweat it if you fail the first time.

What he doesn't mention is that even though they're good early items, the shield has a strength requirement and the swords need faith/dex/strength points to use it's ability or it's just weak dual wield swords that can't be enchanted

The brass shield is already one of the best shield in the game hands down

This is my first souls game so I was pretty much lost when it comes to the controls and mechanics, of which i’m still learning, but needless to say this boss clapped me so fast and sent me to the shadow realm. I tried to hit him with my bow, but forgot to lock on so I fired off into the distance and then got one shotted lol
