Why doesn’t the church celebrate the Old Testament holy days?

The Old Testament is filled with feasts and festivals that celebrate the works of God. Why doesn’t the church keep these holy days today? From one of our Ask Ligonier events, Derek Thomas explains the relationship between these feast days and the Christian.

When did Jesus fulfill the fall feasts of Trumpets, Atonement and Tabernacles? Zechariah 14:16 says that Tabernacles will be celebrated in the Kingdom in the future so why wouldn't you do it now?

"There is no hint in the pastoral Epistles." Umm actually 1Tim 3:16 is talking about the OT. Teaching, Rebuking, Correcting and learning righteousness. That would include His feasts.

I would like to hear more about the early (first two centuries) Church, especially its worship. I have tried to find material to read but I am always disappointed in what I find. It is not thorough enough, IMO. I want to know how the liturgy first developed, what was the thinking behind certain practices (teachings, readings, sacred meal, singing, etc.). Were any accepted forms of worship controversial in the early church? There is so much to learn that IMO is very valuable. One tidbit I am most curious about: Obviously the core belief in the early Church was "Jesus is the Lamb of God" who was sacrificed for our sins; but IMO somewhere (maybe centuries later) this core belief met competition from liturgical practices (i.e. communion is the core of faith). How did that develop and when?

I think people need to learn what "fulfill" means. I think people should understand what, "always and forever".. "thru the generations" and "Holy" means. This is where the deception creeps in. This entire video is Roman inspired gnostic teachings.

Because we misinterpret Romans 14, Colossians 2, and Galatians 4 by taking select verses out of context then interpreting the rest of those passages around the eisegetical "conclusion". Paul directly tells the Corinthians to observe Passover. Jesus says that we should keep even the least of the commandments found in the Law and Prophets, and teach others to do likewise, to be Great in the Kingdom of Heaven; and He instructs His teachings, including keeping the least of the commandments, to be taught to every people.

Amen, we are under a new covenant, under grace. JESUS CHRIST fulfilled the old covenant by his death and ressurrection on the first day of the week that glorious Sunday morning. If you go back to the old covenant, you have fallen from grace.
