My whole life I couldn’t understand why I had so many issues with self care, and especially not wanting to get in the shower. I only knew that I experienced anxiety and panic attacks to the point I would nearly pass out in shower. This greatly affected my self care. Now that I know that I’m autistic, it all makes sense now.

This is my story. And these are my new strategies.

I love sharing little snips of random tips to get through my sensory struggles. Besides showering, do you have any hacks about brushing your teeth? 🫠

Thank You! I have the same shower issue. I have always had it, but I only recently found out that it is due to being Autistic. Panic attacks have also gotten worse because I feel claustrophobic having to close the shower curtain. I prefer baths but can't do those anymore due to lung issues. I'll try some of your hints, and I plan to also buy a long Terry cloth robe to help with the drying-off part.

Thank you for your vulnerability and for sharing. I can relate as I’m audhd and basic hygiene has always been a struggle for me. I’m only 28 and already have full dentures because I never got a grip on my oral hygiene. It took me a long time to stop feeling so ashamed, but sometimes those feelings creep up. I’m paralyzed by my constant bombardment of thoughts most of the time.

I find baths to be less stimulating...but if you have to shower; here is a trick! Fill the shower/bath up with enough water to cover your ankles, and then shower.
For some reason this works for me, though it's still not on the same level as a bath in terms of stress.

Hey Random Grannie! Your hair is absolutely luscious and gorgeous! I'm still trying to figure out how to make showers more easy for me. I think for me it's the executive dysfunction, and I think I may try just taking a shower first thing in the AM rather than doing it at night, like I always used to do. Get it done first thing in the day so I won't be dreading it the whole day 🤣. Thank you for this video!

Could you just take a bath instead of a shower?
