Sticking rigidly to routine and not being able to stick to routine are about the same thing: executive functioning deficits, and unburdening executive function with a stereotyped "automatic" response.

I used to be deathly afraid of dogs (owing to an experience of being jumped on by a very large one when I was a toddler, and the Karen walking it wouldn't get it off me until my dad came out and yelled at her), until my family adopted one. Now I love them!

Never have I ever ACED a job interview. The questions that are asked are so vague. I feel like every question is a trick question. Then I start rocking nervously and stuttering and I look like I'm either lying or on drugs.

I can't handle any loud noises, or bright lights, I can't handle not bathing everyday. I can't handle when people stare at me, I can't handle when people see my ear plugs and ask what is there problem. My husband has let me know that I clap a lot and people think it's so annoying and I shouldn't be doing it but I don't even know what or why I'm doing it till my husband tells me that I'm doing it.

I have always been obsessive about showering daily...apart from not feeling extremely weird/uncomfortable from the idea of being not clean, showering wakes me up and increases my energy and drive considerably. There have been 3 exceptions...1. Backcountry/wilderness camping, where it is impossible; 2. When I was gravely ill and was basically unable to leave my bed; on the rare occasion that I have fallen into a deep enough depression that I simply could not bring myself to do anything (which not shaving and showering, ironically, exacerbated).

For me with showers, it's the routine of having to do it. Having to spend sometimes an hour or even more depending if I drift off in my mind makes it feel hard.

But the biggest thing is how I feel during/after. I have asthma and have sensitivity to heat. So when it gets really hot it can make me nauseous, and the humidity activates my asthma and I'll get lightheaded from it, which will make me nauseous too. I've had a couple times where I'll be in the shower and it suddenly hits and I have to rush in order to sit somewhere and cool before I either vomit or pass out (haven't passed out before, but have vomited 😓)

Tho those don't happen often, it's usually after a shower, I end up just feeling really tight in my chest and lightheaded, having to sit down a lot

It's funny how like when I have my own type of routine I would and still always stick by but whenever like when something doesnt go towards how I want it I'd get pretty upset or just get really triggered. And I agree itll never work with me if someone tries to enforce something to me even if it was for my own good. I usually like to do it in my own terms and whenever I feel like I'm comfortable. However in food preferences I'm considered to be very picky especially around any type of meat. I'd mainly like to eat chicken but it has to be specific types of chicken like chicken breasts. For showering I feel like I have to shower after I came home from school or errands or even if I'm feeling sweaty, I just hate that feeling of heat and sweat at the same time. To this day even when I was a kid I also hated construction especially dealing with circular saws mainly because of its noise and I hate it more when I try to cover my ears my dad wouldnt even let me cover them and just tells me to be a man. I am to this day still trying to learn to be a bit more social to people, although I always find it hard because I would mainly like only a couple of things compared to others like video games for instance. I honestly like your vid man.

Great video Andy. Strange thing is I actually shower twice a day! Idk what it is but I hate the thought of being dirty

Showering can sometimes be really difficult for me daily, sometimes I won't have the energy or spoons to shower (but feel so much better and energised after one, maybe that's more to do with Fork Theory.. the terms are still new!)

I discovered a bit of a personal life-hack for me that brushing my teeth first seems to make me feel a bit more human in the mornings? And give me that little bit of a boost to get me into the shower?

But I wouldn't leave my house to go anywhere except possibly the local shops without showering and even then, I would feel guilty.

Sorry about the lost vid, that is totally something I would do! I like a routine but I also hate it. Trying to set it up... Oh GOD! I finally gave in, with prompting from everyone around me, to apply for unemployment. Now, I have been saving for years and I have had a back up money if there was a lull in gigs. Well, "covid" essentially cancelled all of my gigs, for ... ever maybe. (no live music events until further notice). I told my roommate that is a professional counselor, it was literally painful for me and I sat in the dining room, at the table, for 6-8 hours trying to figure out the answers they wanted and decoding their questions. I cursed, I punched myself, I cried and finally asked my roommate for help because it would NOT submit, I finished all the info and he checked it and changed a date(that was correct to an incorrect date) and then it submitted. augh!! No one around me understands the pain. I can get involved in a project and not eat, drink, shower or use the bathroom for several days. Good to see you, I've been away. I did finally get a one day gig. It was nice to work. Thanks !

When I was younger I bit into a tomato and its juice got in my eye, I cried for like an hour and refused to eat anything with tomato in it till I turned 16, I wanted to try them and then I refused to eat anything but raw tomatoes for over a week
