My nearly new X3 went back to the dealer to fix an annoying tailgate rattle. After 2 attempts the tailgate always started rattling a few weeks later. Having seen this video I tried it myself and after 4 months the rattle has not returned. A really good tip, thanks!!

Great fix, I had rattling issue on back door BMW iX 50 and your method fixed it completely. On the iX you can turn the studs by hand no tools needed

Genius, thank you. Our X4 developed an irritating rattle/squeak from the hatch panel. Did some basic troubleshooting by driving around with the hatch partially open and then by isolating it with some fabric. That led me to wasting time gummifledge'ing the hatch sealing gasket and then replaced it entirely before finding this video. Strong work, thanks for sharing.

Thank you, you saved my life. It worked for me as well, you have no idea how much I tried to find where that noise was coming from. Thanks again!

This worked for me, the rattling reduced significantly. I had to use a 17mm 12 spoke wrench for my G05 X5. And I had to loosen the stopper (counter clockwise ). No paper testing, I just had to press on the hatch above the tail lights while in closed position to see if creak or not. Also I applied some electrical tape on the prongs on the hatch that meets the stopper. Thank you!

Thanks for this! I could not get a 19mm socket to fit on my 2016 X3, and a 20mm was too loose. For me, a SAE 3/4" did the trick. The rubber stop clicks as it goes around. I needed to score one of mine with a utility knife in order to have visual confidence it was turning with each click.

I just did it and it cleared up a clunk I thought was a bushing or something. Thanks!

Thank you so much for this! I wasn't able to find a wrench that would fit in the surrounding gap so I tried twisting it with my fingers.. it moved only slightly but that seemed to reduce the rattle already. A few days later the noise came back. Someone else suggested putting electrical tape on the hatch door part that meets the stopper.

Bmw x4 2017. I have a clunking noise on and off the driveway from rear driver side. Lower speeds i can hear it too. I thought its suspension bushing etc. I was able to isolate it to rear hatch as when i keep it partially open and drive, i dont hear it. So its joint causing the clunk. I cleaned some dirt arount those rubber joints and it has reduced the noise. I will try adjusting them as shown in the video. I think i found the problem. Since many are reporting the same. So test it with hatch partially open to islote this issue to these joints. No mechanic figured this out. Thanks again. I will post the update once i fix it.
