The ironic thing is that here in the UK electric scooters are banned on all trains because of the fire risk. Now, compare the tiny battery in one of those to a bus or a lorry. Please, someone make it all make sense! 🤡😵‍💫

Between 1933-1961 London had the largest fleet of fast, reliable, silent, comfortable, cheap and environmentally-friendly electric buses in the world which would never burst into flames because their power was safely delivered through pairs of wires suspended securely above the road. London Transport couldn't be bothered to maintain the infrastructure, so they sent these buses to the scrapyard in the name of 'progress' to be replaced with what we see in this video. Very clever!

The toxicity of the battery fire fumes is more lethal than any internal combustion engine exhaust.

Not just the smoke that is incredibly toxic. The water from the fire fighting effort becomes heavily contaminated and just washes into drains and run offs.

I drove busses in London for 12 years and our garage never had any bus fires in that time.

No one was hurt, though there were toxic fumes going everywhere. Hence we really dont know the future health impacts of these fires.

If people were on a London EV double-decker bus and a fire started and quickly went into thermal runaway at the rear of that bus, how would they escape from the upper level ? Did London Transport ever take this scenario into account ?

I bet the investigator will come back with the finding that it wasn't an electric bus, it was a diesel bus.

I didn't see any measures being taken to contain the water run-off from the water that was being used to douse these blazes in either clip, which means that not only was there incredible amounts of toxic fumes being expelled into the air, thousands of gallons of pollutants were also being pumped into the local drainage systems.

I imagined this would be after climbing Wimbledon Hill, but it has just come down it. When I drove the route 93 up that hill in the ‘70s they quite often boiled over at the top of that hill. There was a tap and watering can positioned for just that. Seems we’ll now need strategically placed swimming pool sized tanks instead 😂
