Video footage released by London Fire Brigade to help raise awareness for their #ChargeSafe campaign captures the moment when an e-scooter on charge bursts into flames before a huge explosion of fire and smoke.

London Fire Brigade crews were called to the incident at the weekend on Cecil Road, Harlesden in Brent. Dell Williams is one of the tenants in the two-storey terraced house and was charging his e-scooter in the kitchen of the property when the fire occurred. Luckily for him, and the other residents, they were not nearby when the incident occurred.

I had 2 electric scooters for trade but one Battery Pack explodet in the Night. Not all cells had the same capacity. I would say never charge indoors. The older the battery gets the higher risk of accidents.

My questions. Was the scooter new, did it have the correct charger, was the battery or bms tampered with?

I suggest batteries that have this potential meet the same regulatory requirements as Medical batteries. Components added to prevent cross cell charging. The other reason that cause the fires is contamination at the battery manufacturing. The risk can never be zero based on current battery technology.

I never leave rechargeable batteries of any kind charging overnight or when I am not at home. I don't trust them, and this is why.

Like many, I have a fear of fire and this shows clearly why.

My petrol scooter has never burst into flames while I was refueling it.

More information is needed before drawing conclusions.

One of 5 reasons we need to use sodium ion batteries instead. 1. no explosions 2. operate in cold weather 3. no harm to the environment when mining 4. less dependency on china 5. faster charging.

I once was concerned that a new television that my company was about to start selling was getting too hot and could cause a fire, it had a BEAB sticker on the back so I wondered if it had already been approved by the British standards. I called the BEAB and was told, "The Safety of the Public was not in our Remit".
I rest my case.

Same could happen with a phone tablet or laptops, Lithium iron batteries, with a scooter it's being chucked around a lot nowonder. 😮

Look how the charger is stretched out in the outlet, was there any damage to the lithium cells? If this a cheap knockoff?

And this is why I never jumped on the e scooter or “hover” board fad.

In like 5 seconds its too smokey to survive. Insane! When the fire is noticed among inhabitants, its almost too late...

Keep charge between 10% and 90%. Don't fully charge or fully discharge. After riding wait 30 minutes before charging.
