New Ford GT review - is Le Mans racer too brutal for the road?

The brand new Ford GT supercar is sensational to drive on a circuit, boasting as much drama and speed as you’ll ever encounter from a car that’s licensed for use on the road. Designed in secret from a pure-bred Le Mans racer, it’s composed, brutal and exciting – but it’s not as refined as it could (or should) be on the road. Despite such reservations, though, you can’t help but fall in love with the latest GT. Its looks and engine are more than enough to win you over – even if ultimately it’s little more than a road-legal Le Mans car at heart.

I drove several of the last generation of the Ford GT's and what a magnificent car. I can't wait to get my chance to drive this new model. For those that don't like it. To each there own but there is no way in denying that this car is amazing in every way. Later they take the car to the Arctic Circle. drove up there and back and broke the lap record on the stock tires. The driver changed his mind about just how capable the GT is. Amazing

Awesome car. The Ford GT is built from the ground up to be race car and is on a different league on the track. The McLaren and Ferrari are road cars that are on a different league in terms of livability, practicality and comfort. They are designed for different purposes, offer completely different experiences and are not really comparable at all.

The reason this thing costs so much more than the Ferrari and the McLaren is its production run of 1000 cars vs production numbers of 7000 to 9000 annually for the Ferrari. For your $500K you get a car that is as close as legally possible to the car that won the LMGTE Pro class in 2016 Le Mans 24 hours.

If you can afford that kind of money and are willing to spend it for a track day toy, you will be very happy with this thing.

The car looks good in Ruby Red but the sound track is in near of improvement. By using a intercom helmet you would be able to hear the commentary clearly. Let face it this car is not for the man in the street its just for the super rich only.

You guys need to use lav mics for those in cabin shots with lots of ambient noise. Could barely hear you with the volume all the way up. Then the wheeze of the GTs intake startles you at those volumes....

Steve, did you ask the Ford engineers how alignment is affected by the change in ride height? 50mm is quite a drop, and I've always wondered how a car is setup based on that dramatic lowering.
