FIRST DRIVE: Ford GT Mk IV - $1.7m, 800bhp Ultimate American Supercar!

This is the ultimate incarnation of the third-generation Ford GT – and a homage to the Mk IV iteration of the original GT40, which won Le Mans in 1967.

Fittingly, this new Mk IV is a track-only, pseudo-race car, of which just 67 will be built, at a price of $1.7m each.

It shares its carbonfibre chassis with the GT road car and 2016 Le Mans-winning LMGTE Pro race car, but the brakes are new, the ‘longtail’ body is new and the EcoBoost V6 has been enlarged to 3.8 litres. Together with new turbos and a host of other engine changes, peak power rises to a plentiful 800bhp.

Over to Top Gear Magazine’s Contributing Editor, Jethro Bovingdon, to see if this swansong is worthy of its name…

Does the Ford GT Mk IV get your vote as the ultimate American supercar?

By far top gears best host, doesn’t try and be Clarkson, talks stats instead of nonsense, knows how to drive, doesn’t hide his personality… this guy needs a raise Pronto

I really enjoy these short videos you're doing at Top Gear now instead of trying to recreate the TV show.

I rode in this thing back in November at Sonoma. Absolutely mental.

Getting Jethro on board was one of the best TG decisions in years.

Finally - Jethro ftw
.
Please just have Jethro do all the content, especially when driving is involved... and skip all the writers/presenters who lack any skill behind the wheel 🙏

Y'all should do a Multimatic factory tour like how y'all did with HWA. They make some seriously cool stuff.

Calabogie motorsports park is the best track in Canada. You are damn lucky to whip this thing around there! What a machine.

The color, livery, and body design from the thumbnail are one of the coolest looking cars I've ever seen.

This thing is flat like a flying saucer going around that track.

I have a scale model of the road car, bought it in 2016 cuz I thought it looked so futuristic... And it still does! Absolute dream car.

Love all the Canada in that car and video. Calabogie, near Ottawa, might now be a road trip destination.

This is exactly why Ford is head and shoulders above GM and Stalantis. Unfortunately I'll never even get to see this car in person. Very cool none the less. Thank you.

They need to enter it in Le Mans 24 hour prototype like Chevy did with the zl1 nascar

Good to see Larry still going strong at Multimatic (use to be called Dynamic suspensions) I worked there for 5 years as a damper technician. It’s based in Norfolk (thetford) just down the road from Lotus. They also made dampers for formula Ford, formula Renault, F3, F3000, BTCC and F1 in the early 2000’s.
