As a kid growing up in Southern West Virginia we had a saying, that boy could tear up a steel anvil, that goes with trucks too, maintenance, warm up before you get on em and realize that there machines and not drag cars, I don’t think most people have enough sense to take care of vehicle anymore! On my 2nd 2.7 Ecoboost powered F150 and both have been flawless, but I’m easy on em and let them turbos cool down for a minute or two when I get home, also never miss a oil change.

Personally I've never ran into anyone that has had any of these problems. I have a 2013 3.5 with 165k miles and an 2018 v8 with 30k miles. Both have had no issues, other then regular maintenance you'd expect.

I had a 2018 F150 with the 3.5L. It had the top of the engine replaced 2 times under warranty. Cam phasers. The third time at 125k I had to pay $4000+ to have it fixed a third time. I sold the truck due to a hard shift into overdrive.

My 2012 5.0 had 300k before I traded it with out one problem! The new 23- 5.0 f150 I am close to getting 60k and it’s just a towing beast! Like the older one pulls my 10k trailer smooth shifts well at times on long up hills it tends to be screaming but it’s a 5.0 that loves the high rpm’s. My brothers 3.5 is just as nice but tends to be a bit faster to 55 mph. And mpg are 1.6 different from his to mine his being better of course. Sounds like you have a no love lost when it comes to ford but good review!

I had the 2012 Raptor with a 6.2 I sold a couple weeks ago in a cord hybrid kind of crazy switch but it was a great truck and I never had any problems with it

The F150 is scary fast for a pick up truck 🛻

I have a 2018 f150 with the 5l. I reduced iol consumption by 75% simply by switching from 5w20 oil to 5w30 oil.

My 2020 F150 has the transmission rebuilt at 15000 miles. Still didn't work properly after.

I have a 2021 Bronco with the 2.7 with 13k on it but almost going on 3 years! Should I service the transmission?

Yes 19 & 21 both 5.0's no problems. Change oil every 5000 if they burn a 1/2 quart off leave them alone and just monitor chances are it won't burn off anymore. Sometimes engines don't like oil all the way to the top mark.

I think a lot of those sales are due to federal contracts etc.

You did not mentioned the V6 N/A options, they seem to be reliable engines.

10-speed (10R80) transmission you say is good but then go on to list a bunch of safety concerns. IMO I would avoid this transmission. Maybe the newer spec w/upgrades are an improvement but I’d wait a while before getting one. The 6-speed (6R80) still the most reliable IMO.

5.0L Gen1 engine is good. Earlier years (2011-2013) have had problems with the intake valves bending causing compression leaks and misfires. Gen3 is plagued with issues especially years 2018-2020 and should be avoided. Gen4 not a fan of new updates/features as you have mentioned. I think by far the best 5.0 is the Gen2. Still has port injection and all the fixes of the gen1, without the extra new crap they added with the newer generations. Also just a watch out… the 5.0’s are prone to coolant leaks.

Worth mention the 5.4L triton should be avoided at all costs. It is garbage.

So far my biggest complain with my F150 has been the vacuum type IWE. At 85k miles I already went thru 2 sets.

We are doing research to get a new truck. All I hear from people is that they all “know a guy” who has had major problems with their F150s. I personally know 2 of those people and they said they will never buy a ford again. Yet somehow the F150 is topping all the lists of people ranking the best trucks to buy for the last 5 years. So I’m at a loss.. what really is the state of ford these day?

I know all cars have problems and so do toyota, however we take our chance with any car especially if the jobs are over seas, I've always had food luck with toyota, acura, honda, lexus, but recently had a silverado for 11 years with only $500 in parts so it's all the time it's made I guess
