'PM Rishi Sunak on Coronation arrests: Public shouldn’t face ‘serious disruption’ from protesters'

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak says he is “very grateful” to the police for their work over the Coronation weekend, adding that the public should have the ability to go about their daily lives “without facing serious disruption.”

London’s Metropolitan Police have expressed regret over the arrests of anti-monarchy protesters during the Coronation of King Charles III on Saturday.

The six people were arrested under Section 2 of the Public Order Act 2023, under the suspicion they were planning to lock onto something to disrupt the procession.

No charges were brought against the demonstrators, and on Monday evening they were informed their bail had been cancelled and no further action would be taken.

Even when the police admit they’re wrong, the Tories claim they were right 🤡

The public should not be facing prosecution for expressing an opinion, softly or loudly. By small steps this country is becoming a police state. How many burglaries and muggings took place while the police were harassing these citizens?

a serious disruption like a royal funeral or coronation? I think what you mean is "People who disagree with us shouldn't disrupt things". Also, I think austerity, greedy energy companies, tax dodging MP's and growing poverty is a more significant and more concerning disruption to the publics everyday lives. WHen will you want to deal with that?

I fail to see how holding placards and wearing t-shirts is serious disruption.

What he actually means is the event's complicated, and disruption's no help. However, what followed was par for his fascist course. Roll on 25 Jan 2025, the latest date to get rid of him.

What is the point of sharing a news clip if the person doesn’t answer the actual questions been asked, all your doing is giving him a platform to spread his propaganda without challenge.

The power of the people to have the police held accountable when misusing powers given by parliament should also be important to you Current Pm, I say current as the last few years or so of government back stabbing, incompetence and blundering lies or half truths you never know.

The bloody coronation palava was a serious disruption. Not just the disruption to the capital over the weekend, but it was also televised, even on youtube it was hard to ignore it, half my recomendations were videos about the event, and my usual watchlist the closest is something royal related from history.

I think the Police was right to stop these protesters from what could of caused a danger to the public crowded in as they were to see the procession with so many horses being involved which could well have caused injury and even have lead to deaths.
These protesters were acting like spoilt children throwing tantrums.
Perhaps next time they should not have any horses in the processions at all, why not just have them all walk ! 🙄

I mean who goes to an event and carries luggage straps for zero luggage and who carries a bike lock without a bike, coming equipped to commit a crime is more like it, they knew what was gonna happen and yet push it by carrying dodgy objects and make out they of no importance, give over, given half a chance we all no what you were going to do with those items, they just annoyed because they got caught and locked up for hours, play stupid games win stupid prizes, again, you were warned zero tolerance.
